No you don't need to tell BT, you will simply not receive a bill from them for any calls you make via 18866.com.

18866 do not contact BT on your behalf either as there is no need for them to as you are not opting for carrier preselect. You are opting to dial a routing number, ie 18866, before you make each call.
  • Thanks for that steve, another question, i also have Bt option2 package free evening and weekend calls, do i need to tell BT to cancel this pacakage so i have the standard line rental whicjh will be the option 1 package

Also do you use the 18866 and 18899 respectively, just asking because of all the negativity on the forum with the payment method

    Thanks

i am going to move into a house next week that has 2 lines already installed, I currently use 18866 for my calls so am wondering -

1 If is sign up to a light user scheme will BT know that I am using 18866

2 I believe the cheapest line rental is £11.50 a month or £10.50 DD. Can I use my credit card to pay the £10.50??

BT says the £1 discount is strictly if I pay by direct debit

You are just renting the line of BT and you are free to use any phone provider, as long as you use the prefix you will not get billed by BT and the £10.50 DD will not alter.
  • Can anyone give me their experience of using [move]www.telediscount.co.uk[/move]
This appears to operate on the same basis as 18866, however you don't have to register & their rates [glow=red,2,300]DO[/glow] seem cheaper than 18866 for landline and mobile calls abroad.

Shark Yes, cancel Option 2 with BT.

I use both 18866 and 1899 dependent on where and when I'm calling. I use 18866 for UK landlines and 1899 for UK Mobiles.

Have you registered with TalkTalk? You get free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines for a year with them, like with your current option 2 with BT, but without the monthly charge. Follow the link below for details:

Amboy You will find that you cannot use 18866 if you sign up to BT's Light User Scheme.

BT will not allow you to be on Low User Scheme if you have more than one exchange line in your house. Neither will they allow you one if you have a mobile phone.

You can use your Debit Card to pay the bill, but not your credit card. If you don't pay by DD you will be charged £11.50 monthly.

Having signed up with 1-tel I get FREE directory enquiries on 118111. Also the BT basic tariff that I still have to pay gives £2 per month call allowance, I can't use this on local & national as they are free with 1-tel but by prefixing 1280 I can use this on 0845 & 0870 numbers as they are no more expensive with BT. So I get up to £2 of free 0870 & 0845 Nos. per month.

Keep using BT (1280) for your 0845 / 0870 numbers - in general they are WAY cheaper than OneTel.

If you pay a monthly fee to onetel you might be better downgrading to their standard service (free weekends, £0 per month) and using 18866 for your weekday calls.
Life should be a little nuts; otherwise it's just a bunch of Thursdays strung together.

Firstly hi to everyone, this is a great forum.

I am currently making calls via cps through one-tel and i have just registered for making cheap daytime calls using 18866.

My question, is there a maximum length of call time where you have to hang up and then re-dial to continue with the free call, as with other call providers (e.g BT where there is a 5p connection charge for up to one hours free call) or is the call time length unlimited once connected??

    Thanks :)
