Any ideas what is best package ?

Why have two lines? The beauty of broadband is that it allows you to share a single phone line for internet access and calls. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

the reason i have 2 lines is at night the main line is used for business calls by my husband who runs a call out system so needs the phone
. the other is family use.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0 -

Why not check out https://www.talktalk.co.uk
The rates to mobiles are 10% cheaper than BT, plus you can register three mobile numbers within the calling circle, and get another 10% off.

For those from Northern Ireland
If you transfer from BT check if you maintain the national call rate to the Republic of Ireland. I transferred to Sainsburys homephone, without knowing that these calls would become international - until the first bill! (there reply email copied below)
For those that are not from Northern ireland and are curious, BT have an agreement that calls from here to the Republic are charged at UK national rate, rather than international rate like the rest of the UK.
I have put a message in the Northern ireland discussion area, but as many more read this I think it is important to highlight this anomaly here
Thank you for your e-mail.
Calls to the Republic of Ireland from Northern Ireland are charged at 5p per minute at all times.
Unfortunately we do not have specific Northern Ireland plans, so these calls would be classed as international calls.
If you need any more help, please email homephonehelp@sainsburystelecom.co.uk or call our Customer Service team on 0870 990 9685.

for those who don't mind the labour intensive version of a cheap phone provider here is how i have saved money on my bills
1.MAIN PROVIDER
sky talk
i use them for off peak landline calls only ,they have a free to subscribe to option whereby uk landline weekday evening calls cost a maximum of i think 5p(assuming you call for no more than 1 hour) weekend landline calls are FREE with the same stipulation.
2. OVERRIDE/ACCESS NUMBERS USED
a)18866.com for ALL weekday peaktime landline calls (0.5 p min)and for weekday evening calls that i believe will be brief (i.e. less than 8 mins) i also use 18866 for daytime and weekend MOBILE calls (cost 10p/2p per min)
b) 07tel.co.uk
used ONLY for weekday (mon-thurs) evening MOBILE calls cost 5p per min number access number is 0844 484 8899
c). POWERGEN
you don't need their electric or gas to use their phone service , basically i use them mostly for phoning access numbers such as the one listed previously . the reason being that powergen offer you 20% off your top 10 numbers called . therefore using their 4 number prefix (1409) before dailing the 0844 number listed previous will reduce the cost of an evening weekday mobile call to 4p per min !!!!
now those horrible 0870 numbers . where possible i use the champion saynoto0870.com numbers listed to reduce costs . if there is no alternative i call the telestunt access number of 08445660566 (via powergen) at peaktimes . this enables me to call an 0870 number for 4p per min during weekdays . off peak 0870 aren't so dear so i use powergen (1409) to make these ( again for a 20% discount if the number makes my top 10 )
0845 numbers i will again use the saynoto0870 website where possible , the alternative being a tariff from firsttele.com (1639 prefix) which charges 2p per min (plus VAT)for 0845 numbers at all times .
to most this may seem complicated but my monthly call charges are around £10-£15 from a previous figure of £40 . saving over £300 per year . i'm so used to this system that its second nature . i also make the odd international call , for which i use the brilliant 18866.com (usa and eire 1p per min!!!)
my line rental is with bt at about a tenner a month unfortunately this element of my bill is unescapable .
if anyone knows how i can make more savings then i would be very keen to know . i have shyed away from talktalk , onetel etc because i believe that their monthly fee tariffs would be more expensive .
to summarise my call charges are as follows:
LANDLINE
Weekday 0.5 per min (plus 1p connection charge)
Weekday Evenings 5p max less for short calls
Weekends FREE
MOBILE
Weekday 10p per min
Weekday Evenings 4p per min
Weekends 2p per min
0870(where no alternative)
Weekday 4p per min
Weekday Evenings Approx 3p per min (assuming powergen 20% discount)
Weekends Approx 1.6p per min (assuming powergen 20% discount)
0845 (where no alternative)
maximum of 2.35p per min
can't be bad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!if i had known then what i know now0 -

I've just received an email from just dial saver saying they are scrapping their £1 charge per month for their option 1 package, which I am on. They are also moving everyone from their standard package onto their option 1 package.
This is obviously to counter BT's scrapping of their standard line rental and charging customers an extra £1 a month to go onto their together option 1 tariff.
Yippee.

Having signed up with 1-tel I get FREE directory enquiries on 118111. Also the BT basic tariff that I still have to pay gives £2 per month call allowance, I can't use this on local & national as they are free with 1-tel but by prefixing 1280 I can use this on 0845 & 0870 numbers as they are no more expensive with BT. So I get up to £2 of free 0870 & 0845 Nos. per month. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
