HI...hope this is the right place

I am with NTL....I pay £9 ish for line rental and £17.99 a month broad band. Am now not using the phone line due to v. cheap mobile...... Surely there is a better deal out there ...as I seem to be paying line rental for nothing....I would be soooo grateful for some words of wisdom....cheeeeeeeeeeeeers!

I am currently making calls via cps through one-tel and i have just registered for making cheap daytime calls using 18866.

My question, is there a maximum length of call time where you have to hang up and then re-dial to continue with the free call, as with other call providers (e.g BT where there is a 5p connection charge for up to one hours free call) or is the call time length unlimited once connected??

AFAIK with 18866 and 1899 there is no limit on the length of your call. I regularly go over the "hour" with no problems.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
I am new to this site, found it through a search as I desperately need to save some money and I love the site.

I have a question about the 18866 phone calls. I have been reading about it and have decided to give it a go. My in-laws told us about it a couple of weeks ago and to be honest, we thought it was a scam as you have to give your credit card details to a company abroad. We have now registered after reading about it on this site and it has put our minds at rest a little bit. But can you tell me how this is viable for this company to charge just 1p connection fee and then nothing. How on earth do they make any money? What is the catch?

Sorry for sounding so synical. :-/

There is no catch, you have probably been with BT for years and have been fleeced by them every quarter but you have not complained, these alternatives are a no frills companys just like easyjet, there are no substantial overheads so they can justify the rates they charge and still make a profit, no call centres ect, do not get me wrong they are still making a profit but not as much as the other well known operators are doing, it just shows you what they have been doing to us all these years.

i have joined the 18866 family in conjunction with talk/talk2 option which is free evening/weekend calls for a year and no monthly subscription...even better savings......no catch there either ;D

Just read Martins's E-mail about switching to 18866 etc, BUT I have 5 others in the house who will never remember to dial the prefix.  So I have gone with the £9.99 a month all callls free deal with Tele2.  I would like the other but  there is little use in training children to pre dial!
Are there any phones or devices that does this automatically?  I know I can preset the phone for certain regular numbers, but that won't be good enough.  I need a call router???????/

See Martin's thread about the Orchid dialer, this can be programmed to automatically dial the best CPS at any given time of the day. A discount is available for MSE users.
