    All quiet.
Any updates on how these are paying at the moment??
Are they back on track, still going to the wire, or are they still paying late at times??
Anyone with recent (very recent) wxperience??

My next payment isn't due to arrive until three quarters through August. Only one more after that. When a dealer goes belly-up the death throws usually last longer and are more significant than has been seen thus far, so I wouldn't worry too much at this stage - just don't rush out to get another from them -and if they are a day late take clear and decisive action immediately.
  • Have just ordered a new phone and O2 contract from BuyMobilePhone.net, but despite their promises of "next day delivery", I have not even got an email from them to say they have despatched. When I go onto my account on their website it still just says 'your order is being processed'.

Having looked on other consumer forums, it seems they have a reputation of leaving anyone who fails the credit check in the lurch and just abandoning their order without telling them. Since I probably have a few footprints on my credit history (have paid off a car loan, shifted my mortgage and cancelled a credit card) - I am beginning to think this is happening to me.

Anyone had a similar experience with them?:(

Claim sent off yesterday afternoon and processed and accepted before midday today - that's the good part of their service, excellent in fact. Middle of September before payment is due, one of the downsides of this company, along with using vouchers.

@Rapidassistant, they are known for taking orders and having delays - so may not be a credit check issue.
I only use them for cashback deals, but they are also well known for delays in advertised gifts like ipads, laptops etc.

  • Hello,

I'm just after a bit of advice from the more experienced BMP.net customers. I would consider myself quite a seasoned money-saver (though I have never posted on this site) and bargain-hunter, I'm very organised and in control of our family's finances.

I have, however, no experience of completing phone deals with cash back. In fact, I have never even had more than the rolling contract with Tesco Mobile I am on now (costing around £7 a month) and previously a pay-as-you-go (spending around £5 a month). As you can see I'm a very light user, but I am soon going to need a new phone as my old one is on the blink, as I thought upgrading to an internet phone would be a good idea as I could get a lot more work done 'on the go' meaning I'd have more time for my children when I'm at home. This is how I came across BMP.net.

I found a deal which seemed really attractive: a very good phone (Nokia E72), 18-month contract on T-mobile (not used this network before but I like the sound of the flexible booster system), 600 minutes and 500 texts (obviously way more than I'll ever need) and unlimited data for £30.64 but with 12 months free line rental by redemption it works out at £10.21.

I have had this deal in my 'basket' for the past month, as I wanted to get to the end of a monthly term with my rolling contract first - I would be ordering the new phone around Wednesday next week. Meanwhile I've been doing a lot of research into BMP and the cashback by redemption system. I know I will be organised enough to send print-outs of my online bills out within the stated time with the vouchers, I know what to look out for (vouchers included with phone delivery, make copies straight away, write down dates when due in diary etc) so the only risk factor which remained - as far as I could see - was the potential of the company going under. I thought this risk was low given that BMP had been around for a good few years... until I read the last few pages on this thread. This does not sound good! I just wondered what people's thoughts on this were now - from MJs last post I gather that you feel the risk is now not so high as you felt it was back in May? Or did I misunderstand?

I know I'll probably be told that if I can't afford to take the risk, I shouldn't do it, but I'd just want to know how risky it really is to tie myself into an 18-month contract with them now? It's not so much that I can't afford to pay £30 a month but it would be very silly to pay that much given how few minutes and texts I really use per month.

If BMP were to go under, do customers on redemption deals have any recourse to getting their cashback?

BMP also have an automatic cashback deal for a Nokia C3 which also works out around £10 a month but after reading reviews of the phone I was a little put off (particularly by the slow internet due to no 3G and camera quality as these are features which I would use a lot). I think I just really have my heart set on a Nokia E72 - quality of phone is more important to me than the contract/minutes etc - I'd expect the phone to last me a good few years, i.e. beyond the 18-month contract. I haven't looked into the costs of Nokia E72 pay-as-you-go as I have not had an internet phone before and I'm not sure how much I would really be spending on internet minutes/data on PAYG.

Please could anyone offer any advice? (apologies this is so long)
Thank you very much in advance,
    Naomi

I still think this dealer is higher risk; it always has been because it isn't a large outfit (even those can never be risk free) and it always will be. When a dealer blatantly pays late it's unacceptable and a warning sign. It's now happened over at least two periods this year - so though it's not as widespread as to produce a huge red flag it's still a warning sign which does an S&P downgrade on risk in my view.

My advice is this; can you find a similar deal on a cpw dealership? It sounds like (unlike many) you HAVE done your research and worked everything out VERY carefully. CPW is more likely to survive in a stormy sea and are easy to sue if needbe. Second, if you can buy the phone (unlocked) for less than, say, £150 then you can buy it and take out a virtually free cashback deal from a safer source, including a cheap phone which you can sell immediately. That would work out cheaper overall.
  • Thank you, that is really helpful.

I've been using the Which website to compare deals and have not been able to find anything as good that is not on BMP - though perhaps I ought to explore different phone models again.

I will also look into our suggestion of buying a sim-free Nokia E72 and then a contract deal from CPW or similar. Still, with the BMP deal I would in effect be paying around £4 x 18 more than on my current rolling contract with a free phone, so I would have to buy the phone sim-free for around £72 and find a contract for under £10 a month to get as good a deal.

Another thing I was wondering about: I could not actually find the deal that BMP are offering on the T-mobile site itself. In fact, T-mobile are not offering this phone at all on their own website. I wondered why this is. Could it be that BMP put together their own deals from phones which they themselves source + sim-only deals from networks like T-mobile. In other words, would this mean that I would only be signed up for a sim-free deal with T-mobile and that they would therefore allow me to downgrade to a cheaper tariff should BMP go under, and allow me to keep the phone? I'm sorry if this is a silly question, as I say I'm not familiar with the rules and regulations regarding fixed-term mobile contracts.

    Thanks again!

The phone is yours to do with as you will. Downgrades will be the same as any contract with any network i.e. depending on the network, length of the contract etc. you may be able to downgrade part way through the contract by a certain amount.

As for a contract for under £10 per month; with a cashback deal it would be more like £1 less the value of the phone which comes which it (which is yours to sell if you wish).
  • To MJ - I just replied to your PM but as I can't now see this message in my sent folder I will post it again here.

    Hi,

That's very kind of you - however I need to make a decision today really as my Tesco rolling contract is due to be cancelled on Wednesday. I can't put it off until next month as I'm due to give birth and would like to have the phone all set up and available so I would be able to use it in hospital to update family abroad etc. The phone you found on eBay was located in Asia so would presumably take some time to get here, also it was the E72 I was after, not the E71. The cheapest E72 on eBay are being sold for around £170-180, more usually around £260.

I've pretty much settled now on a different deal on BMP - with cashback, it works out slightly more expensive than my original deal (£10.78/month rather than £10.21) for fewer minutes (though still enough for my needs), but the monthly cost of the contract before cashback is £20 so it would be far less problematic if BMP were to go bust sometime before the 18 months are up.

I'm just going to read and re-read the T&Cs for BMP and T-mobile one last time but think this is probably the best option for me - buying the phone separately and getting a virtually free contract would in this case only save me £10 or so plus the value of the handset that could be sold on but seems like a lot of hassle - with looking after kids, working part-time and studying I'd rather go for a more straightforward option!

Thanks again for all your advice. I'll be sure to post updates on here about my experiences with getting cashback from BMP.

I have a question about mobile contracts in general, but i am thinking of buying from BMP.

Can i buy a phone on contract, place the sim in another phone and sell the free contract phone, is this possible/allowed?
