Tiscali going down.. HELP....

Hate to point it out to all the Tiscali bashers but Tiscali's debt isn't actually as bad as say Virgin BBs debt (neither in physical figures nor in relative terms in comparison to the company's value...)
Tiscali ISN'T going to shut down over night and people won't be left "high and dry" with no service... Martin doesn't recommend Tiscali because of service - he lists it according to best monetary value/offer - and there are several posts by him explaining why certain companies and banks are listed in the "best buys". It's based PURELY on money - not on customer service or number of complaints posted on MSE
In case anyone DOES care then yes I work for Tiscali and no we're not about to "go down the drain"... There are 2 parts to Tiscali - a UK one (Tiscali UK ltd) and an Italian one... the one in trouble is the Italian one - the one they are trying to Sell is the UK one - SHOULD the worst happen and the business gets into so much trouble it can't continue to run then it will be force sold (at a much lower price) probably to BSkyB. The BB service etc will continue as it does now. The "loosers" will be the company's greedy Italian owners and not the customers... Ironically the UK part is actually the one making money which is why it won't just "shut down" even if the worst happenedDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
I started a 12 month contract with them only in October. Up till now there service has been great. No problems. I have line rental and broadband as I was tired of paying BT's incredibly expensive rates just for line rental when I pay £14.49 pm for line rental and broadband.
I never knew Tiscali had debt. And this Martin bashing isnt helping, he has been great to me and my family.
I hope when they seaze I can just move to Sky which is the company I was going to move anyway after the 12 month c. as I want HD tv.
All BB companies (and probably all companies in general) have debts'Tis the way the world works...
And don't give up hope of BSkyB buying Tiscali just yetPeople forget that they have stopped negotiations just before the end of the financial year when the most pressure is going to be applied to save money/show profits - spending £450mil ain't gonna look good on anyones spreadsheets at the end of the financial year
Especially if they think that they can force the price down which at the moment seems to be working...
Point of interest... Tiscali UK Ltd is one of the only BB companies reporting a profit - you don't even WANT to know how mig a loss BSkyB reports... they however write it off against the satelite side of their business so no-one really notices...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! It may be worthwhile downloading and storing any e-mails currently held on their servers you don't want to lose.
 The mail servers won't just be turned off you know...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

How comes Tiscali have cut their offers??? (just a Q. not to bash??)0
-
Political mainly is my guess
And more and more BB companies will probably stop their free/cheap offers as the "credit crunch" carries on...
There is a "minimum" that can't be crossed because there are overheads in providing BBCompanies who provide BB for free do so at a huge loss - that loss has to be written off against something - Sky obviously has a huge satelite division to write it off against - Virgin has the cable TV. I do doubt if long term they will be able to continue these offers as those businesses too become affected by the "crunch"... At a guess... I'd say each "free" line is costing them about £5-6 a month (not counting things like providing staff and all the logistics...) So that's £60+ a year - if you have over a million customers that's a neat loss you have to write off of over £60 mil... Add logistics on top and I'd say you can double that (hardware, maintenance, connection costs, engineer costs for BT engineers etc)... sustainable in the long term in this financial climate?

Because euro1net are not Tiscali
One was fairly small fry - the other on of the top 5 BB providers in the country - one owns it's own equipment - the other rented rack space and probably got turned off because they hadn't payed their providers bills. In Tiscali's case they ARE the providers

You seem very defensive of them. (In what way do you consider them "on of the top 5"? Their unhappy customers who come to MSE and all over the net to report problems might say different)
But as I said, my suggestion was as a precaution. Storing important emails is always a worthwhile precaution whether or not the ISP is in difficulties.0 -
I have taken the opportunity to leave the sinking ship, I have e-mailed Pipex and requested my MAC code (that is not to say it will be forthcoming however) but I have taken the step. I am then transfering to BT (I suppose it is better the devil you know!!!
Can you PM me the email address you've used or post it here? All I can see is a phone number for MAC requests and I'd rather not phone them if I can avoid it. Cheers.0 -
I am with Tiscali and have all my important emails going to my tiscali address.
What is the best thing to do?
Should I get a new email address and if so is there an easy way to inform banks, utility providers etc? I do most of those things online eg bills etc:eek:
Please could someone tell me what email address they used to get their MAC code from Tiscali?
All seems a bit of a nightmare to me!!!0
