But are you already out of contract? MAC is valid for 30 days and then it expires. But make sure you request your MAC only and do not cancel your contract.

Thanks macman. Was just reading the other Tiscali threads and the one about not cancelling my contract, only requesting a MAC code.

I don't get this thing about contracts, though. I pay monthly to Tiscali. I've been with them for....um.......several years. I thought I was on a month by month thing whereby I could cancel with say a month's notice. Suppose I'd better try to find a copy of the contract - which could be anywhere!

Eidt: been reading their T&Cs. As far as I know I'm not on a minimum term contract so can give 10 days notice and request MAC code to migrate. But sorting a new connection is only one problem - what a pain in the aris it's going to be changing email address!!!
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.

You pay monthly but that doesn't mean you're on a monthly contract. The norm on a contract is 12 months or 18 months, with 1 months notice. very few ISP offer monthly contracts.
If you're still on your original deal from a few years then you're out of contract now-but ring them and ask.
Changing your email address is easy, just get a Gmail acount and off you go-you can keep it for ever, regardless ofwhat ISP you use.

I'm glad I didn't transfer my phone to Tiscali either. Very nearly did though a few months back. I'm out of contract and now have MAC code, would it be best to leave now or wait and see what happens?

Depends if you've decided to go anyway or hang on to see what happens to Tiscali.
If the former, no reason to wait.

Tiscali were recommended as the best ISP for home phone calls and Internet the other night on the Gadget Show http://fwd.five.tv/videos/jon-tests-home-phones

When I say 'best' replace that with 'cheapest'. In every sense.

I'm amazed that Tiscali's MAC handout department hasn't ground to a standstill...you'd almost think they want to shed customers at present.

Euro1net ISP went down a couple of years ago, and caused their innocent customers loads of problems.

Their customers were left high and dry for around 3 weeks as their lines were tagged, but no-one could get a MAC.

It took all that time for the lines to be cleared, then their customers had to sign up as new customers with the ISP of their choice.

Everyone had to use dial up in the meantime.

It did make me wonder, tbh, the speediness of their response in the circumstances! Maybe it's to spite whomever - eg Sky - gets to pick up their customer base on the cheap if they do fold!

    This is worrying.

I only signed up in July last year, for 12 month contract, I have just e-mailed asking if I can get a MAC code yet stay with them (renewing MAC after 30 days if necessary)?

I'll let you know the response.
