Tiscali going down.. HELP....

I started a 12 month contract with them only in October. Up till now there service has been great. No problems. I have line rental and broadband as I was tired of paying BT's incredibly expensive rates just for line rental when I pay £14.49 pm for line rental and broadband.
I never knew Tiscali had debt. And this Martin bashing isnt helping, he has been great to me and my family.
I hope when they seaze I can just move to Sky which is the company I was going to move anyway after the 12 month c. as I want HD tv.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -
Just had a reply from Tiscali, bascally they have said what macman said...They won't give you a MAC while you are still in contract unless you buy out the rest of the contract. While they continue to trade, your contract stands.
However they did say this;If we cancel your account in the standard way (i.e. without a MAC) there will be a period of 10-15 days AFTER cancellation for the broadband markers to be removed from your line (this is done by a BT engineer at your exchange). After this period you can sign up to a new provider.
I guess if they do 'go under' that equates to a service cancellation.
However, Tiscali have got quite a few customes in the UK, it wouldn't be finacially viable for a receiver to turn off the interweb:rolleyes: if someone else had an interest in the company.
And thats if it got that far.
Sky is part of one of the biggest media empires this planet has ever seen, or is likely to see, if they show an interest in buying Tiscali I am pretty confident that there would be plenty of carrots dangling in front of their noses. :silenced:0 -
I have taken the opportunity to leave the sinking ship, I have e-mailed Pipex and requested my MAC code (that is not to say it will be forthcoming however) but I have taken the step. I am then transfering to BT (I suppose it is better the devil you know!!!0

Actually Tiscali aren't in as much trouble as the newspapers like to point out
They have asked for payments to be moved etc due to the end fo the financial year and basically politics in trying to sell the UK part... IF the business went into administration all that would happen is that Tiscali UK Ltd would be sold (at a lower price) to probably BSkyB and the Italian division would be left to fend for it self. Tiscali UK Ltd is actually the profitable arm f the company and the only reason it hasn't been sold so far is that the Italian owners are too greedy
Broadband lines wouldn't be "switched off" over night unless someone blew up TeleHouse in London (but then again most of the country would be without BB if that happened - not just Tiscali customers...)
As for the MAC code issue... hate to break it to you but actually you'll find it was due to BT and not Tiscali's systemsThe billing/accounting dept? don't know much about that side of the business I'm afraid - sorry

Your right that The Press etc. like to hit nails into Tiscali's Coffin whilst they are still alive!!
Global Telecoms (above feature) went bust and left people in the lurch!
I suppose it is a waiting game, speculation doesn't help.0 -
Hi
Having read the postings since the beginning of the week about Tiscali doing down the pan, I decided to contact Pipex (who I've been with for 2 weeks short of a year) and ask them for my MAC code. I received a response at 6.00 am this morning that requested further details from me, which I have given them, and the last contact from them, about an hour ago, was that they will email my code within 48 hours and hard copy it in the post to me within 5 days. Well, I live in hope, because I really want to leave them, they have given me a shoddy service and I am looking forward to returning to BT. Not perhaps a wonderful service, but a reliable one.0 -

Huge difference in all honesty between the 2 companies... Tiscali actually own hardware in the exchanges etc - GT merely rented it (and some of it probably from Tiscali - the wholesale side of Tiscali is HUGE and a large proportion of the business isn't home users but resellers who sell the BB on - some examples would be the ones Tiscali went and boughtPipex for starters... I always used to laugh when people said the quality of the lines improved after moving from Pipex to Tiscali... the only thing that actually changed was that the people billing them changed - nothing was changed on the line front
).

Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience, but depending on the problem you've had I'm sorry to say you might not find much of an improvement by going back to BT... If there is a problem with the line or any of the equipment at the exchange then it's possible changing suppliers won't make any difference...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
