Hello again!
I'm having a metal block!! Can I have some help with a description of a book I'd like to ppost. Basically its in acceptable condition. The cover is fairly battered.. the edges are curling and the celephane(spell?) membrane that covers the cover is starting to go crinkly at the edges! How can I describe this in minimal words!!! Does this crinkly membrane phenomenon have a standard description/word?!!!
thanks!!Saving money is fun :A0 -
I went to the auction viewing today and there were very few books unfortunately. However one book in a box of 'mixed' items seems to be quite rare, no one seems to have any copies and the only copy Amazon has is currently at £110. I suppose I could always try for the box at a really low price and dump all the other bits and pieces and just hang onto the book.
Shall I go, shall I?

"Cellophane has some crinkles otherwise clean and sound...etc, etc!!!!!" You'd be surprised at how many words you can actually get in.
I have that phenomena today where LOADS of listings are ending and I'm getting an email every few minutes. Theres a list as long as me arm!!!! After groaning loudly a few times, OH has volunteered to relist them for me...that man IS a saint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have had a slow picking up of sales so cannot complain. I'm just wondering about the old buying books from the paper thing...trouble is you don't know whatcha gonna get!!!!
Bought a CD box set that has been autographed by the composer but cannot find it anywhere on Amazon  so I guess its an Ebay job (BTW I've never heard of him but I'm no Classical buff anyway...the charity shop did not see the autograph so did not pay through nose)Laughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -
Just sold a book today and one last week. I barely scrapped even on postage as it was a medium sized book, but today's one is a light one so I should gain a little on that.
I am unsure when I get monies though, can anyone enlighten me, I am sure last year when I sold a piece of pc hardware it took months.
I looked into my account "Your Marketplace" but cant find any feedback form my last book last week if at all.
I always email the person to say it will be sent tomorrow in as of today sale, I send it today, thanks for purchasing along with a note in the jiffy bag to say the same.0 -
Amazon appear to pay out their sellers every two weeks and once you get the email advising you payment has been made it seems to take about 4 days to hit the nominated account after that.

I'm not certain of the value of the book, but no one apart from Amazon has it listed anywhere. I do realise though that the Amazon for sale price is no real indicator, many of the books i bought last time had sellers listing them at £75 plus and mine at £15 have never sold, so I realise it is a chancy thing.
However, most mixed boxes like this went for between £5 and £10 at the last auction (before buyers premium) so I did wonder if it was worth a try if I could get the box at £5, there were also a couple of other books in the £3-£5 range in there as well.
I prefer not to say too much about the book, I keep my selling id's totally secret, however it is an out of print book connected with art deco design.
HOwever, it is quite near the end of the auction so I might be too cold to stay by then. Last time I was absolutely frozen to bits by 5pm and missed out the last few hundred lots.

I've bought 2 lots through ads in the paper. The first lot was about a dozen boxes for £20 and so far (about 3 months on) I've only made £25 out of them but there are a few books left. Not exactly anything to write home about is it. A lot of the books had been damp even though described as excellent.
The 2nd lot was totally crap. I'd spoken to the woman on the phone and agreed that I only wanted the non-fiction. She said it was all in superb condition. When I got to her house it stank of dogs which was worrying. I looked at the boxes she'd lined up and about 3 boxes were full of really heavy and obviously worthless stuff. So I took the rest, 4 boxes full at £4 a box. When I got home and looked them all up, there were only 12 books worth anything and most of them are quite old books and out of date editions, so I suspect I'll just about scrape my money back! They weren't in particularly brilliant condition either.
I don't think I'm going to bother with any more newspaper ads! I'm not the sort of person that can get there, look at the books and then say, sorry, not interested. Too soft I suppose.0 -
Soo - I'd leave a bid then you can't be tempted by anything else that you don't *really* want, then you know you haven't wasted a whole morning if you get outbid0

AT you are the voice of reason...but I am already tempted by a few odds and ends of collectables and a very nice print as well. So It may be thick jumpers and jeans and a mug of tea to spend 6 hours in a sale room tomorrow :j
