  • ETA I have already had my Earl Grey with a slice of Battenburg.

This is a bit spooky, over the course of the afternoon I singlehandedly scoffed half a battenburg with numerous cups of Twinings EG (and their Green EG) I had to buy a new cake because I 'only buy it for my daughter' - HA!

I think that we should all just assume that it's a passing phase and plough on regardless.

Good luck with the PO Mr Clingford

Only two sales for me this week folks and one of them was a £1.50! Not good...but at least I am not rushing about in my lunch hour.

  • I have just spent 25 minutes trying to get rid of a 2.5" square sticker (with a reindeer and 'Merry Xmas') off the back of a shiny book, I tried every unguent in the cupboard with little success till I tried olive oil - it works a treat

One of my local large village charity shops has had a refurbishment. They use price stickers and they are not the easy peal off ones either. Since the refurb, they have taken to putting the stickers on the paper cover inside the book, so as you can imagine I was not best pleased.

At the same time I suppose I dont want them to know I am selling them on so I did not want to mention it either. Anyway, I doused the sticker with white spirit and left it for a while and it peeled away quite easily. I thought I was going to have to give up buying from them.

The charity shops in my local town charge an awful lot for their books - about £1.99 for paperbacks and £4 upwards for the kind of books we are looking for, and its too far away to go home and check their worth, so I rarely look in them.

  • I have finally listed some books on RISI, and one is very popular - only listed it last night, and 3 people have requested a swap for it (two from on here - sorry, I rejected you). I didn't check which edition Amazon linked it to and wonder now if that is why it is in such demand, as there are 3 editions on Amazon, two going for peanuts and one showing limited availability.

I sold a book last night (finally, after a week of no sales) which had no other copies listed (not even with Amazon) and a buyer waiting. Average price (? how do you have an average for one buyer?!) £6.50, so I went in at £8.50, reduced it after 24 hours to £7.50 and it sold overnight! It is a children's book, very lightweight, and I think I bought it in a set of 4 for £9.99. Dilemma now is I have another set of these books for my daughter's birthday (tomorrow) - do I take out the same copy to sell from this set as it covers a good portion of the cost of the other 3 books?! She will never know that it is missing...

Incidentally Sainsburys are selling bubble wrap for £1.49 a roll which is a lot cheaper than other places. I am using that plus their economy brown envelopes £1.17 for 25. Sainsburys also sell jiffy bags 3 for 99p but they are very good quality and I save them for real money sales, plus they are bigger than the poundland ones.

Tesco sell bubble wrap for 97p. I have not got round to working out which is better value as they are completely different sizes (Tesco stuff is smaller). I never see bubble wrap in the fruit and veg section to take (as some of you do), not sure I would have the nerve even if I did!

I haven't seen their other stationery - will have to have a look out for it.

Still learning about all this forum business - now I have subscribed to this new thread it will appear in my User CP - is there any other way of getting links to other threads without subscribing to them? (It has been a very long day if this is not making any sense!!)

Just sold another 25p charity shop book for 9.99 whay hey that makes 3 today, but it has been quiet this week sold 15 items since the 18th which was when my proper pro merchant started.

I am not swapping or buying much at the mo either must sell what I have on the shelves and then just replace, it is so difficult to pass by those charity shops tho.

For info I have 356 things listed.

    Better luck this week all.

I'm surrounded by millions of books, and I'm not allowed to sell them! I'm sitting next to a bookshelf that must have over 1000 in, and no one ever reads them!

same here, we have at least 1500 books for keeps... the only thing between those books and amazon is my dh's live body ((evil grin and laugh)) :rotfl:

I agree with AT. My sales stopped for almost a week ,then I sold a book for £30, my most expensive ever. Now I'm selling one or two a day. there really is no pattern to it , it just depends on who is looking at a particular time. In the last few days I have sold several books that I have had on from the beginning (October), so we have to be patient and relax about it. Although I was feeling very fed up in that week of no sales, so I do understand.
