selling your stuff on Amazon...part three...

i have a theory, it seems to be holding true
i think the universe *knows* when i've been to the post office
you see, EVERY time i've not had any sales on amazon for days IF i've just been to the post office with a huge load of parcels then you can bet money when i come home i'll find a 'sold, dispatch now' notice from amazon in my mail box :rotfl:
yesterday posted a big batch out, yep, got home to find one, got another one sold less than 12 hours later so they're both wrapped and going out in a few minutes (haha universe, have to go pick up a freecycle item from near the post office anyway)

i'm not really complaining
might actually try doing this when i need sales
it's similar to the been-waiting-for-someone-to-show-up-forever-go-take-a-shower/toilet-break-oh-there-they-are-now-that-i-can't-decently-answer-the-door thing :rotfl:founder of Frugal Genius UK (Yahoo Groups)0 -

but some of the CDs on there cannot be making more than 50p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sure none of them are ours though because we are all very conscious of the costs of packaging etc. whereas I think some people would forget about that when figuring out their profit. :eek:Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Right, I'm going to follow HOLsale's advice and go to the Post Office tomorrow - perhaps that will kickstart the sales! I've got a RISI parcel to post, so I won't just be going for the sake of it!
Soolin - how did the auction go?0 -
Hi all,
Justan update for you. I was having a really slow time on Amazon with just one or two sales in the past month or so, so I decided to try ebay. I have had a mixed response with books, although some walking/climbing books have sold. OH was gutted that I sold them as he wanted them (but for free of course). I'm not in the business of buying more books to keep so I told him I had to sell them. (I got them from the local charity shop.)
They get a good supply of books, but they don't price them up so sometimes I get to the till and they say "£1.50 for that one." As it's a charity shop I have been known to cough up, but if it had been labeled at that price I might not have bothered. Hmm... a moral dilemma methinks. Still, I have managed to shift them at a small mark-up so I haven't lost any money and the charity shop got a good price too.
I suppose as long as this is a hobby, there isn't any harm done. If I was doing it commercially I would have to be more ruthless and buy bulk lots of books at auction or something.
I did have one good Amazon sale this weekend though. A book on European politics from RISI went for £18 to a buyer in Italy. Result! Trouble is, the swappers on RISI with good obscure books don't want any of mine, Ho hum, such is life!

Soolin - how did the auction go?
I got my expensive book, it was right near the end so the auctioneer was getting tired and was just taking opening bids, so I got the whole box for £3. Apart from the one book I wanted in that box there are about another 7 that are listed at over £10 on Amazon, plus a few bits and pieces that might go better on ebay, so I listed them there.
I also got a mixed lot of videos, dozens of them as I spotted a couple of rare vids that never came out on DVD. Most of the vids though are worthless and I am bagging them up for the charity shop as they seem to be able to sell them at £1 a go.
I bought two other mixed lots of books, one in an adult 'art' theme but not too naughty as Amazon have them listed. Also some BBC vids that my son wanted as the school were asking if anyone had them and some china to clean up and sell.
The good thing was when I got home I had a 'sold despatch now' message from Amazon about a book from my first auction that sold for £27.

Is anyone having problems with listing on Amazon at the moment? At about 11.30 last night Amazon pages stopped loading for me, and i just put it down to being tired and clicking the wrong buttons so I went to bed.
I've just started trying to list again this morning and the same thing is happening, I can log in OK but the pages just won't load, it is driving me crazy. I'm sitting here surrounded by books and have promised Mr Soolin that I would have them all 'donated' or stored by tonight and I can't list anything.
ARghhhh
EDIT. All OK. I had a cup of tea and came back and tried again and Amazon is working oK for me again.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. In Uni yesterday they had 6 excellent copies of a book of an adult nature, along the lines of bedroom antics in public (God knows what courses they do at Swansea Uni!). They were 50p each, was tempted to buy the 6 but chickened out and bought 2. Listed 1 last night for £18 it had sold by this morning, just put the other 1 on and am hoping the remaining 4 will still be there next Tuesday!
At last had a response from the RISI person who negged me, and am feeling a little better about it all as I know she can't be saying the truth. I wash all my books with a baby wipe before sending and check there's no personal bits of paper between the pages. According to this person the hardback cover was completely detached from the pages and most of the pages were loose as they weren't attached to the cover. I believe my books are always well packed and can't see that such damage would have been done by royal mail, and O know with 100% certainty that the book was not sent like thatI love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
