Ebay is easy if you are selling 'popular' books as you can see instantly how much the same book sold for, and how much post and packing the previous seller charged. I always check all that before listing and if a book doesn't sell I don't waste my listing fees.

Tomorrow a basic listing for items with a start price of 99p or less will only cost 7p, so I thought it worth a bit of a punt on some of the cheaper books that I wouldn't normally bother listing on Amazon. I'm also listing some heavy books at 99p with the £4 post and packing (or whatever) the book will actually cost to send.

When I've looked Soo, (haven't bought for ages), the books seem to bring a good price on eBay, especially the beach type, chick lit sort (shows my reading standard :o;)) I used to feel like yelling that they could buy some of them cheaper on Amazon or GM :)

I saw a Jodi Picoult book go for stupid money ... must have been a bidding frenzy :)

sofa_sogood a buyer can actually save money by buying on ebay as the seller has less fees to pay so can start the book cheaper. For example a heavyish book that would cost say £4 to post would have to be listed at around £6 on Amazon to make it worthwhile for the seller, and that would cost the buyer £8.75. That same book on Ebay could go for 99p with £4.60 post and packing (£4 for postage 60p for ebay costs) costing the buyer £5.59 and giving a profit of 99p to the seller.

Sorry, I can't explain what I mean really, but I have a book here that is going to be about £4 to post, yet the cheapest one on Amazon is £2.50 but working it all out on the back of an envelope I would actually get more profit selling it at 99p on Ebay. I just have to work out each time the costs of posting and the net payment received from Amazon against the likely price on Ebay.

Really though I have to sell some books just to make some room.

Funnily enough Soo I do sort of understand, but in reverse, if that makes sense?

I underestimated the postage on a book I sold, so the buyer paid £10.50, and after p+p and Amazon charges etc ...I made £3.30. (It might have been a bit different if I'd been a pro-seller). So there was £6.80 in costs to both of us (I think ... I'm getting confused now lol). But if I'd sold it on eBay and the postage was set at £4.52 I might have made more than the £3.30 ...

I had to check through all the books and take off a few because even though they were brand new, they weighed a ton and I hadn't factored that in (I thought I had though 'cos I remember weighing them  )

But I'm getting the same with space. Mainly because my OH has loaded all the ones I don't want into boxes and 'forgotten' to take them to work. Men grrr :)

I nearly had a good day today. I bought a game from a charity shop for 75p, as it was selling on Amazon for £16. Then I found out one of the discs was missing :(

No, I'm very happy. I have a first edition hardback, signed by Terry Pratchett. We don't have the dust jacket, but unsigned ones are going for £6 so I've bought one and will swap.

There's only one other on there at nearly £300.

It might be because they rotate the books instead of putting the new ones up first Soo, so if there's more than one, you're in a queue.

Soo, I think perseverance is working. I've just sold another book on GM, in acceptable condition (it's probably better than that but if I get any complaints, I'll let you know ;)) ...

So it seems like GM is worth a shot after all. If people have the time and space.

    For £300 I'd want a 1st edition ...

But would that be signed by god?
