Soo- how many books do you have on amazon? I have 400 ish and sell roughly 10 a week, I'm OK with this it's not my main income so it's a nice add-on. How does your sale percentage sound against mine?
Also if you go to the auction would you be looking at other things to ebay - widen things out more to areas you haven't considered yet?0 -
Had a weird one this week Sold a DVD. My first sale for months. It was to someone who lives about 300 miles from here but had the same surname as someone I knew from a few years ago. With the packing slip I put a note asking if they knew them as it is an unusual name...she e mailed me back, it was her daughter-in-law!!0

I think I have about 200 books on Amazon at the moment and sell about two or three a week. The rest of the stuff , non books, at auction seems to go for more than prices on ebay, I bought some Wade some of which I've listed but probably make less than £1 profit , and some copper kettles which were a ***huge** mistake. They just looked nice, I didn't realise that copper kettles were worth absolutely nothing. Still I only paid £3 for the lot.

Soo, have you time to go to the viewing day and pick out stuff to search on ebay before the sale? even after 6 years of buying at auctions I still feel happiest bidding on stuff that I know what the sale price is likely to be, it's pretty foolproof.
I leave my comfort zone sometimes and bid on stuff that I haven't searched on ebay, sometimes it goes OK and other times.....!
Can you put the kettles back in another sale or maybe boot them?0 -
It is viewing tomorrow and the auction the day after. The books i had researched by taking down a sample of isbn numbers from each batch, but the copper kettles were a bit of an impulse buy, I had visions of using them as a centre piece at home and bid without really thinking it through. I am probably going to hand them into the Church ladies for their flower arranging.
I did buy a great picture though, I just liked it and thought it might go well on ebay. When I got it home and did some research it turned out to be quite a valuable print and I kept it as it looks great in my hallway.
The Wade was also researched, I just think it is a bit slow at the moment on ebay for collectables, so will hold back and sell the rest later rather then let them go for opening prices.
I'm going to look at some of the other sites like greenmetropolis that get mentioned on this thread, as I'd feel better about things if i could just shift a few more of the lower priced books to make some room.
I'm absolutely addicted though.

The problem is that when I first started heeding AT's advice about selling books I actually ended up buying more than I sold. For weeks I had a net increase rather than decrease. I absolutely must get rid of some books, I have thousands now and my house is groaning.
Also, if I must admit to it, I went away for the weekend recently and came back with about a dozen books, all for me and not for resale! Mr Soolin is threatening divorce..but I'm not worried as he has as many books as me.

Actually my best source of books so far has been my local library. For some reason they sell of fbooks donated by the public, so they do have a library discard stamp, but are otherwise unmarked. Most of my sales have been from those books, and of course I'll have to pass the library again tomorrow...
Charity shops are a no go for me, even the tattiest paperback book will cost £2 in most of the local charity shops as we are considered an affluent area.

Mr Becky actually walked out as he says I'm obsessed! He did come back so I got him started and now we're in competition, we're actually fighting over the computer now. And last night he had a strop when he saw how many swaps I was packing. As I said to him, it pays for little extras for the family so quit moaning, I could be out with the girls every night, then he'd have cause to complain.I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.
