But it would be nice if people needing urgent advice could see their post stay on the first page for a bit longer. Especially since the number of people in that position is likely to increase significantly this year.

The tough bit is working out how to achieve that and keep the spirit of the board going. That's what makes it to a large extent.

Perhaps add a column header 'Latest Thread' so that threads could be sorted by the most recently started thread instead of the most recent post.

I've never felt that "Old Style" was the right name for that board, as a huge amount of the threads involve bread makers, slow cookers, freezing food etc.

I know we have an "In the Home" board which tends to be more DIY related, so how about renaming the Old Style board as something like "Good Housekeeping" (if that isn't copyrighted!). If I was a newbie I would be a bit bemused at where to put a modern day domestic query, as I think the title Old Style gives the wrong impression.

  • Change of board title and better use could be made of How much have you saved?

Moneysaving blogs and diaries make for fascinating reading and give lots of new ideas.

Perhaps it should read How much are you saving? with a description of "blog your progress here"
  • ps and shift it out of this graveyard, put the board somewhere more obvious let people shout loud and long about how much they managed to save :)

I've just had a look at that board Edi, (noticed there were 5 viewing that board and over 360 on Old Style - says it all really). It seems to be a muddle of odds and ends of posts, with not much continuity or point .

I agree it could be made into a much more relevant part of the forum, but at a glance it seems people aren't really sure what should be posted on there, as in most cases there are other boards that would be equally appropriate.

If it was more lively and had a defined purpose I'm sure lots more people would visit and contribute to it. It has potential but needs direction.

    Savings and Investments:
----> Cash ISAs and other tax-free cash savings
----> Investments with risk - stocks, shares, bonds, property, etc
I would agree with this but not sure where Stocks and Shares ISA's would go as they have risk (unless its a guaranteed capital one) but are still tax-free

Personally I am a fan of having lots of subforums though obviously that isn't to everyones liking - my suggestions are:

Credit Cards - a lot of the questions are about Balance Transfers so it would be nice if they had their own subforum

Budgeting & Current Accounts - Most of the Budgeting topics tend to get lost as there are so many current account topics - it would be nice if Budgeting was seperate however it probably won't get much use

I also agree with the Inheritance Tax idea suggested in this topic

House Buying, Renting & Selling - maybe buying/selling & renting could be split-up

Internet Access - could be split up into wired and wireless (dongles etc.)

Techie Stuff - maybe split into computer-related and other (TV, sky, pvr etc.)

Student Money Saving - add a section dealing with student loans and grants

Following discussion on the travel forum many users have put forward the idea of a sub forum for budget airlines.

Obviously with the likes of Ryanair having the excellent customer service that they do and with the pit falls of name changes, flight changes, cancellations etc there is a constant need to question/rant (sometimes hard to tell) about budget airlines.

For the new user there will be a dedicated place for them to easily search and possibly have their question answered without even the need to post.

Additionally it would be easier to have stickies detailing the most common questions - particularly the EU regs regarding delayed flights and such.

This was suggested on the bankruptcy and living with it board and thought it might be an idea to post it here....

Some might suggest splitting this board in to sub sections.
    General Chat
    Repossession
    Post BR
    OR interview.
    etc.

It may be necessary if it gets much busier. Important posts are starting to need a bump to get answered.

I have been thinking about this too. I love the board the way it is - I dip in and out throughout the day, and help where I can. BUT it is getting much much busier, and often topics are missed because they have slid down the pages because of the sheer number of posts.

It might be time to split it up into those sections in order for people to know where to post their questions and/or search for answers previously given...

Personally I think there are too many boards. I understand why it's done, but by grouping more together (or making child boards or whatever they are called), the quieter ones may get more response if mixed in with others (that are appropriate of course).

Shouldn't 'Cutting Tax' come under 'Work and Benefits' for example? :undecided

And, something I've always felt, although this site wasn't specifficaly set up for it (and I admit I am biased) there isn't a better or more popular board (other than Moneysavers Arms) than Debt Free Wannabee. I personally think it should be top of the forums. No other board has such a drastic and positive affect on such a sheer number of people.

Now I'm not saying this is deliberate in any way and I understand the site needs to be funded, but I just don't personally like the way the credit card and loan boards are above DFW. Someone new and desperate to the site would be drawn to those first thinking they are the solution. I'd much rather see DFW on top spot.

    :)

I am also guilty of a little bias but i would like to see the DFW board split up slightly. The diarys are great for motivation but they tend to 'clog' up the board a little and new and usually urgent posts quickly fall off the page.

The BR board is going the same way and needs to be organised in some way.
