Board Reorganisation Suggestions

A suggestion I've made before, but I'll mention it again as you're having a re-shuffle... I'd like a separate board for grocery shopping to separate essentials from the trampolines, dvd players etc.
Also, would it be possible for members to hide/show boards from their own view of the forum using their user CP tool... that way they could decide which boards they wanted to use and which they wouldn't... so giving users the option of 'decluttering' their own view?TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

But it would be nice if people needing urgent advice could see their post stay on the first page for a bit longer. Especially since the number of people in that position is likely to increase significantly this year.
The tough bit is working out how to achieve that and keep the spirit of the board going. That's what makes it to a large extent.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Personally, i don't feel that the motoring & public transport board fits in side travel, trips and holidays, as it is mainly about motoring, buying cars etc, and the public transport questions get asked in the main travel trips & holidays board
this is just my idea, but how about
travel, trips & holidays - main board (inc public transport)
travel trips & holidays - UK bargains (haven, london, travelodge etc)
budget airlines - move the ryan air sticky into this subforum
days out
move motoring to it's own main board, and have
Parking Fines - as a subforum
(bold signifies a main board, italics a subforum)
make a subforum in techie stuff for anti virus / spyware / malware
as sometimes it is difficult to sift through posts that are people wanting help, other than things about this, and things do get ignored, or hardly any help.

Can we please have a sub board in the Family board for issues that are family related and require advice rather than just having to be financially related iyswim? Everyday there are loads of posts that are not strictly about money but everyone posts there as it is the best place to get advice from like minded people.
I know we have the Arms and DT but they are not the best places to be if you're looking for help or serious advice.
At least that way I could stop telling Savvy Sue 'I'm looking for books on this subject and where can I buy them cheaply', all the time.:rotfl:

One of the 'againsts' is that there are quite a few boards where it might also be argued that a not-strictly-moneysaving-just-general-chat-and-support-sub-board would be useful to people.
Which is exactly why the system should fit the people using it and not the other way around, imo. There is clearly a need for this to be taken into account.Herman - MP for all!0 -
It might be worth considering have a sub board for threads relating to the state pension, attached to the Pensions, Annuities and retirement Planning board.
MSE now has a lot of very useful info about the complexities of the state pension, not available anywhere else as far as I am aware, but it tends to get lost when jumbled up with all the other pension queries.
State pensions are an area of growing interest because of the recent rule changes and the big growth in retirees due to the babyboomers.Trying to keep it simple...0 -
Savings & Investments is a bit of a funny mix. Roughly we have the following threads:
1. General stuff - what should I do with £X? (quite busy)
2. Savings accounts (very busy)
3. Cash ISAs
4. Investments (ISA wrapped or not) (quiet)
Cash ISAs get discussed in both the main and ISA sections as do investments. Investment discussion is fairly quiet and gets drowned out by hundreds of 'best savings account' threads. I don't think we can stop cross-discussion, but how about:
Savings and Investments:
----> Cash ISAs and other tax-free cash savings
----> Investments with risk - stocks, shares, bonds, property, etc
1 and 2 would go in the main board (usually the answer to 1 involves 2), with 3 and 4 in the sub-boards.
The Cash ISAs line could probably lose TESSAs and TOISAs now, although some people may not know their TESSA has been converted which is why I've added the 'other tax-free cash' bit. It would probably make sense to rename the current 'ISA' section as the Cash ISA section - most of the threads on there are about cash anyway.
I'm not completely happy with the title for investments because it has the word 'bond' in it: unfortunately building societies are keen on 'bonds' being fixed term savings accounts, when here I mean corporate or government bonds. Unfortunately I can't think of a better word for them.
It's been said that the board admins aren't happy with investments being discussed for reasons of financial advice regulations etc. But this discussion seems to happen quite freely in the pensions board - I don't see the difference whether the investment happens to be wrapped in a pension or not.0 -
Have suggested this before, but re-organise the Vent, Bent & Heaven-Sent section into:
- Consumer Rights Advice (these questions get split across the Vent, Shop but Don't Drop boards + others)
- Vents, Praise & Warnings - for those that don't really want advice, just want to get something off their chest.0 -
Hi, I'd like to second lorweld's suggestion for a sub-board in freebies, for freebies which have a small p&p charge etc. At the moment this kind of offer would probably have to be posted on Grabbit, which is such a busy board as it is. There is only one sub-board in freebies, so an extra one wouldn't make it too untidy, and I think it would be a popular addition.0
