  • I have just received my first cashback claim from Mobile Rainbow having taken out a contract with them for the 3 network on a £45 a month tariff. They were 14 days late in paying but their communication was good after I contacted them to ask where payment was and payment was made into my bank account despite the fact that I never took out insurance for my phone so you don't need to take out insurance to qualify for their cashback offer. I will let you know how my second and third cashback claims go, but so far so good.

Hi MJMC and welcome to MSE.

I don't mean to cast aspertions but I must urge MSE members to treat a new member's word with extreme caution, especially given recent shenanigans with Mobile Rainbow and the fact that they haven't yet (in my eyes, at least) proven their ability and willingness to live up to their cashback promises.

For everyone's info, MJMC registered only today and, to date, this user's only posts are all in support of Mobile Rainbow, posted on a wide range of threads about either Mobile Rainbow or cashback generally. Alas, all too often these are classic indicators that the user is a plant, designed to falsely boost confidence in a much maligned company...I really do hope that I'm wrong in this instance.

Sorry if you feel offended by this MJMC but I'm sure you can understand that, where so much money is at stake, we really must give more weight to info supplied by long term contributors of the forums and treat users who register in order to post supportive statements with caution. It's nothing personal.

Hopefully in time you will be able to prove me wrong by becoming a much loved regular contributor to these forums as a whole.

    regards,

  • Well only 2 months late, sent in claim via recorded delivery in early July but I have at last been paid. Getting to the point of the second voucher to go in so hopefully better organisation this time.

They are always nice on the phone but I really do not need the aggrevation on the constant chasing....will be back in a month or so either to let you all know how I get on.

I've finally received my cashback, but I'm not sure if it's for the right amount - If I add it all up it seems that I'm getting the tarrif paid back to me exc. VAT. Is this normal?

    I'm on 11 months of £45 on 3 equal cashbacks - I've just received £142.50

    £142.50 * 3 = £427.50
    £45 * 11 = £495

Difference of £67.50! This is very close to the ex. VAT price, but that's probably just a coincidence.

Which is still a little bit over so I'm not sure that's right! As far as I can see I'm getting paid for 9.5 months instead of 11.

    Nope, it's not normal. :(

    Well... £67.50 = 1/2 price * £45 * 3 months

I assume that you are on Video Talk & Text 1100 (priced @ £45/month) which currently comes with 3 months 1/2 price from the network. You should see evidence of the reduced rate being charged on your first 3 bills.

    cost for year: (3 * 22.50) + (9 * 45) = 472.50
    minus cashback: 472.50 - 427.50 = 45

Thus your net position (including both retailer cashback + network discounts) is exactly what Mobile Rainbow advertised.

I may not (yet) be a big fan of theirs but, to be fair to them, the maths does stack up.

Ah, I think I saw something somewhere on this when looking for a new phone; did you only pay half price rental from your bank for the first three months?

  • Ah yes, this certainly is the case - Cheers guys. I'd forgotten about that.

To be fair it doesn't say about what tarrif you're on or the cashback deal in ANY of the literature that Mobile Rainbow provide.
  • For those of you that haven't got your cashback from mobilerainbow yet, don't give up hope.

I faxed my bill on 26th July and only got my £142.50 cashback into my bank account on 22nd September.
  • I have just been reading this thread regarding MSOLS and cashback, and thought it might be helpful if i shared my experiences with other readers.

I purchased my 12 month Three contract via Mobile Rainbow at the beginning of September 2005. At that time they didnt issue cashback vouchers and the terms were quite simple, only 2 amounts of cashback for the complete 12 month contract, all i had to do was fax my 6th bill for the first claim, and then my 12th bill for the 2nd claim. Sounds simple ??

The first claim was faxed off with my February bill, but when i called 2 weeks later, they said that it had not been received. I gave them the fax number quoted on my original information from them, and they said that the number had changed. When i asked them why they did not advise me, they said that they didnt have my email address as I ordered the hansdet over the phone. I asked them why they didnt call or text me this change of number and they told me that it was not their usual practice to phone people (how true is that !!)
By this time I was 1 day over the limited period that i had to send in the documents and they were saying that it was too late, i then went into overdrive and gave them such a headache that i think they crumbled, obviously their story would not stand up in the small claims court, OFT, and all the other people I had been threatening them with, and they said in view of the cicumstances that they would grant my claim. They advised me that I would receive the cash-back payment by 28th April.
April came and went, I emailed, phoned, emailed again, phoned so many times and finally lost the plot again with them !!!
Then finally on 30th May i received an email from them stating I would receive the payment in 1 weeks time ! I didnt hold out much hope, but 8 days later there it was, in my bank. (yippee)
I also received a letter from Mobile Rainbow with some cashback vouchers, which related to 12 month contracts having to claim 3 times instead of twice. Also that it has to be sent by post and not faxed as originally requested. Clearly they cant change my redemption to 3 claims instead of 2, but i kept the vouchers anyhow and decided to send with my next postal claim.

Anyway, i have been waiting with dread for the 2nd cashback fiasco, and I was taking no chances, i used the 2nd cashback voucher, along with my 12th bill and sent the whole thing to the registered address by special delivery.
I rang the next day to confirm receipt, to which i received the reply, it takes 3 days to receive the post, and that they could not help me until that had passed. For the next 10 days after the 3 days period had elapsed I tried to call them, on the 0800 and the 0870 numbers, and the line was either unobtainable, or just unanswered.

But finally last night, at around 7pm, they answered the 0870 cashback line. I was so surprised i nearly dropped the phone, but anyway, first of all the guy said he hadnt received my claim, but soon changed his mind when i gave him the Special Delivery details.
He then said I would receive my cashback with 30 days, and it will appear in my bank account before the 12th October.
Well i have been here before, so I wont hold my breathe, but i think it is promising !!

My advise to anyone in contract with Mobile Rainbow is,
    1) If you need to call them, try doing it in the evening as you will never get through in the daytime.
    2) Always use special delivery for cashback claims
    3) Hassle them for confirmation of receipt of your claim by email and also text. (then in the event you need to go to court you have evidence from them)
    4) For anyone who like me had original instructions to fax only 2 redemptions, then fax the copies if you want, but also send the documents like i did, as that is the way they process claims now, and faxes easily get lost, special deliveries dont !

    I hope this helps !
