Hi all,
I'm looking to change provider for telephone and to move up to broadband.I have read through Martins article and the best option for me seems to be talk talk from car phone warehouse. In the MSE article it states that the sign up includes a free modem yet on the talk talk web site the recommended modem cost £29.99?? My question is has the modem been taken out of the deal and if so does anyone know of a better comparable deal?? Ta in advance Mike0 -
can anyone get through to this company? they seem to go to huge lengths to avoid talking to customers at all!!!
And they seem completely incapable of broadband delivery, i've been waiting for months ..each delivery date has just been ignored...
then they sent me ridiculous letters saying I had to switch to analogue!!! It took me hours of phone calls and several conversations with people who had English as a 7th language to get them to agree that this was nonsense ...but still no confirmation on when they would deliver.
Now they're telling me that I have to remove some "fibre optic" on the line -- I have no idea what the hell they're talking about and I suspect neither do they ....tiscali was pretty poor but no where near as bad as these cowboys0 -
Received this email from Plusnet today.....
News about your broadband service.
Your broadband comes with a peak time usage allowance of 3GB each month. We're going to increase the peak time usage allowance you get to 4GB on the 1st August. Your peak time usage allowance is the amount of data you can download or upload each month during peak hours of 4pm to midnight.
Summary
Current usage allowance per month: 3GB
NEW ALLOWANCE from 1st August: 4GB
Any change to price or contract? No
This increase won't cost you any more or change your contract - it's a completely free upgrade. You'll be able to see your new allowance on the View My Usage pages from 1st August 2006.
I have to say that at £14.99 pm with UK based support....its not a bad deal.0 -

It appears Carphone has attracted 476,000 applicants for its new service. So far it has only managed to sign up 247,000 of them. Some people have been waiting months to get connected.
I wonder what service they will provide once everyone is connected. I would rather wait until it settles down before signing up with them. An 18 month contract is a long time if you are having problems.

Talktalk got slapped on wrist by ASA over the "Free" broadband statement. Original deal was £30 connection and free modem. This has now changed to free connection but modem now costs £29.99. If you already have a modem you don,t need to buy theirs. When I signed up over the phone I was asked if I already had a modem, when I said yes the sales person asked if i was happy to use my own modem, I said yes he replied that saves you £30.00. As i'm in their free broadband area there would be a £70.00 cancellation fee if I wanted to get out of the contract. If you are not in their free broadband area they charge £10 per month (I'm not sure but I think its for bt broadband).0 -
what is the delay in going live with talk talk following sign up. I want to change to them in a few months time0

the Planet-Talk appears to be £12.99 per month not the £10 per month that you mentioned 'thloft' Am I missing something here?? It looks like the sort of deal I want (cheap and Unlimited!) but £10 a month is much better than £13!0

Excellent advice Art!
I have had TalkTalk broadband for a week after waiting 3 months. The set up routine is abysmal. In my opinion not suitable for the average computer user. I've been all week in my free time to get it working and it isn't right yet. Customer service is non-existant. It has cost me, at last reckoning, £11.34 in call charges on top of the so-called all-in Talk3 plan to download software patches/latest drivers and so forth using my old service on an 0845 number.
Honestly, it's a nightmare. The modem works for a while but if you disconnect and go for a meal say, when you come back it won't connect for any one of a dozen reasons. The e-mail doesn't work. If you try to phone you will get "call back later". Or you will be in a queue at 10p minute, minimum £2.00. I did get through at 10:30 on Sunday night to a guy with such a thick Irish accent I could barely understand. Give the guy his due, he promised to phone me back the next day, AND HE DID!!! But only to advise me to download the new drivers from the SpeedTouch site. By the old system of course.0
