If you are plugging your extension into a filter in the hall, you are filtering out the broadband signal to the lounge - that's what ADSL filters do!

I think my explanation might have been a bit woolly. Sorry.

The extension lead from the hall to the lounge was to extend the 'line' to the lounge to enable a cordless phone to be used due to the need for power. This is the only phone I have plugged into the line. Two others are wireless (?) extensions from the powered one.

Is my problem, as I suspected, that there is this 'join' between the line coming in the house and the filter in the lounge?

If this is the case and I have to put the filter, plus router, in the hall, I'll have to get power to it somehow. :(

I wonder can I use her O2 number for the discount at the moment, and if she decides to cancel, put my other friend's O2 number (with their consent of course!) to get the 5 pound discount?
    yes you can

Could I get home broadband installed into a scout hq, (I'm an 02 mobile customer who has just renewed an 18 month contract.) that may have a business line attached to it? They also want a static ip.

The scouts don't make any profit,so therefore aren't really a business as such.
That's my mutt in the picture above.

We are aware that some customers who have the O2 Home Broadband Access package are not getting the broadband speeds you expected, particularly between 5-11pm.

As you probably know, we believe this is the result of network congestion in those O2 Home Broadband Access areas where we have a very high concentration of customers.

We have brought forward plans to improve our network capacity to make sure everyone with O2 Home Broadband Access can get the best experience we are able to provide. This work will be completed by mid-April 2009.

Whilst we are pleased to have gained so many customers so quickly, we are dismayed that it has resulted in unsatisfactory speeds for some people and we are sorry if you have been affected.

We would stress that this slower service is not typical of O2 Home Broadband. O2 Home Broadband was recently ranked first for customer satisfaction in the J.D. Power and Associates Customer Satisfaction Study, which measures customer satisfaction with all aspects of the service.

Can anyone tell me what these upgrades o2 are doing actually mean?

Is it just to sort the congestion issues or will it have any effect on speed?

I signed up and was told my line could handle 13meg, I didn't expect 13meg but I actually only got 5meg, so I canceled. A few people have said I should sign up again after the upgrades, but will this actually make any difference to the speeds I get? Or am I just to far from the exchange?

They are buying more bandwith from BT to cope with demand but it looks like your on LLU with those speeds ? They are swamped with new sign ups and continue to take on more despite these problems.
