good to have someone else on the forum from O2:D

i signed up in dec and was online on the 22nd dec
i used the router from O2 and set up was very easy
however i did have a problem (not O2 fault)
i have a linksys wireless bridge adapter wet11 and could not get this working with the O2 wireless boxII
i phoned the helpline they were very helpful but the guy said he didn't know too much about the device i mentioned.
he did his best to try to find someone who may know.
however i did eventually get the wireless bridge to work i had to reconfigure the wet11,and now all is well
although only been with O2 a short while i am very happy with the service
  • Hi eco21
Does O2 broadband come with a second line and can I make international free call? If so do you have a list of countries?
  • Hi and welcome to MSE.

I'm currently with Virgin (supposedly 2MB) but I have a mobile contract with 02 and I've heard lots of good stuff about 02.

I'd like to move to 02 but my dilemma is that I can be a very heavy user and would break the bandwidth limits on most other providers. Would this be a problem with 02 and do they practise 'broadband choking' for heavy users like Virgin do?

Also I have a BT phone line and currently pay Tiscali for free anytime calls to landlines, is this something o2 also provide and if so how much?

Finally I've read I can get free home broadband if I buy o2 mobile broadband and that there are discounts for o2 mobile customers who have a contract phone.

Do you have any concrete info about the above?

    Thanks for your time.

eco21, it's nice to have ISP rep on here, either officially or unofficially, but I think you need to get permission from the site, and have something in your sig.

I migrated in on 30/12 (from entanet) so far all is going well, I'm considering getting interleaving turned off, which means contacting tier2 (which tier are you?) but I'm undecided yet, 30ms aint that bad, a jump of 14-16ms vs an unstable profile (experience tells me 7000 to 6000 interleaving turned off, vs 6500 with it on) is something I need to think about.

@diamonds - I will see what I can do, I will however need your postcode, to see what exchange it is you will be connected to.

@abr - glad to hear all is working for you. We get told to do "best endeavour" to help customers with problems/situations which are not directly within our 'remit' which means you can get a helpful CS that has experience with bridges or a CS that doesn't. Unfortunately we are all different in that respect as we have not all had training on such a thing, and it is the CS's own knowledge that they are able to help you

@menotmoneyexpert - as far as I am aware, VOIP was something that was in the pipeline, but unfortunately it is in limbo just now so to speak as I think the trial wasnt as successful as hoped

@Lazee Wolf - I hav spoken to amny customers, I am one of them aswell, and I have seen usage by customers, which is exceptionally high, 100+ GB a month and no word, or note on their account. No tariff shaping is done. The word officially or unofficially is that if you were affecting other people on your exchange then something would be done, but in my experience and colleagues experience this has never came to frutation

As a mobile customer you can get £5 a month, so you can couple in home and mobile broadband including discount (not even taking into account quidco) at £20 a month (I think) Not checked with sales people. If you look on https://www.o2.co.uk/broadband you will get more information.

@DatabaseError - I am not tier 2 and as such this cannot be done. Officially o2 does not allow interleaving to be switched off. No matter what tier (level) you get through to. Just now your line will be under alot of speed tests, where your line will be tested to give as stable a speed as possible (takes 14 days usually). So it is best not to switch your router off, so these tests can be done properly.
  • Hi, i am similar, my RFS date was the 31/10, then 30/11, now it is supposed to be the end of Jan.

Hi eco21, I'm on Aberdeen Balgownie - NSBLG. Every other exchange in the city has an O2/Be unbundle date of 31/01, any ideas if Balgownie is going to get your kit? Thnx

  • Hi Eco,

I'd really appreciate any estimate as to my exchange's update as I am an O2 mobile customer, about to change ISP and don't want to tie myself in to a long contract elsewhere if O2 availability is imminent. STD 01832, postcode NN14.

    Thanks in advance
