Need O2 Broadband Help - I work for them - Ask away

I think that O2 broadband (and landline) is the one for me, but there is no working line in the house I'm moving into. I have found out that the BT line is only 'stopped' and can be 'started' again within two working days.
The exchange has been bundled by O2 (I think that is what it's called:o) but what I don't understand is whether or not I have to contact BT to get the line started before contacting O2.
Sorry if this is a really dumb question ............ hopefully someone can explain this to me in simple terms.0 -
You don't have to use BT to get the line started. Only if you want to use BT as your line supplier - you will be entering into a minimum 12 month contract with them if you do.
You can use other companies to switch on stopped lines (eg Post Office will do it free, and no minimum term contract)0 -
Hi Eco, peresonal question. Did you get your name from the system you use for broadband? hehe
Everyone else - For information about your exchange and when it will be upgraded or when services will be available, visit http://samknows.com. DatabaseError wrote: »@gp2.....good question..I came across the same one elsewhere just yesterday...
The answer seems to be that, although O2 IPs are dynamic...they are very, very sticky. The answer seems to be that the IP may be allocated to the Mac of the connecting device (modem/router), using a different connecting device gets a new IP assigned to it, so you can have as many 'dynamic' addresses as modems...not a cheap solution, i know.
It is possible to change the mac of the modem, but not advisable unless you own the device with the new mac, and it isn't connected.
I don't understand much about computers and stuff... but if I have a friend who has O2 broadband could I exchange modems with him? or it's the modem programmed somehow for the phone number?0 -
You should be able to set it up manually to any provider as indeed you should be able to connect any modem to O2.
The modem is in fact a combined Wireless Router and Modem.
Cheers
Alan
EDIT Correct as DatabaseError says, sorry for confusion0 -
@mess0804
I nearly answered earlier...but thought if I just ignored the question....
O2 use 2 different systems, ADSL for the access product, and ADSL2+ for the (cheaper and better) LLU one.
Not all modems are ADSL2 compliant, so the simple answer is no. However, most are, so long as you are able to retrieve all the info from your current modem, or O2, then you can use another (I'm with O2 and the suppled modem hasn't left it's box).Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Sam Knows now says 31/01, but what with only a week till that date, it would be great if there was a website that could give more information, such as whether any work had started yet, or if the exchange had already been LLU, but just waiting to be switched on, etc
From seeing the dates change on Sam Knows 3 times already since i signed up to O2 in September, and being told at the sign up date that it would be a matter of weeks till i was on LLU, it has been a bit fustrating watching the unbundling dates change, and get pushed further back, with no one able to give a definite date for the unbundling, especially when there is around 23 other exchanges down to be LLU in Scotland, all with the same date of 31/01.
The customer service from O2 have been great since i joined up, i just wish that exchanges that are down to be unbundled, are given a fixed date, and the work completed as near to on time as possible.0 -

As I haven't understood a word from this, sp I think I will just drop it... (and I really wanted a new IP - just for a game, but it seems too complicated....
I have received the modem from O2 pluged it and installed the stuff from the CD on the PC ... that's all my knowledge. (I thought if I take my friends modem, identical O2 modem and plug eveything at my place, maybe install the cd again i will have a new IP... but you lost me at the point where you said about retriving data from the old modem...0 -
