I presume he means an accurate balance? As in NatWest updated instantly, whereas HSBC often takes a couple of days for transactions to show (in my experience at least, bit annoying as other than that HSBC online banking is superb).0

Ahhh never noticed that bit before, that'll be useful in future!0

My new Visa debit card arrived today :j - mmmm the smell of new plastic

After reading this thread, my OH used the messaging service on the online banking.
Basically 18 months ago he started with a basic bank account, upgraded it a year ago to a Plus account but only had a Solo card (v. annoying!).
He basically messaged them asking about the new cards and if he didnt get one he would be going else where.
4 days later a card arrives in the post! Bingo!0 -
Hi everyone - I've just regestered as a new user after been an avid viewer for MONTHS!
I wonder if anybody can answer the following question?
Been on a DMP with CCCS for the past 2 years - and doing well. Because of my financial issues 2 years ago I was given a Managed Loan from HSBC witha brilliant interest agreement - 1% above base rate - therefore you can imagine I'm really bringing it down at the moment - £17,000 and paying £250 a month (approx £25 interest a month presently)
At the time my Maestro CG card was stopped an I was given Solo card which expires in September. I also have Step Acc with Nat West where salary is paid in and for DDs etc. I always transfer an additional £600 from my NW to HSBC acc every salary day to keep on keeping it active.
I phoned them today to enquire about the new Visa card and they said I couldn't have one.
Does anybody here know which card they will issue me with when my Solo expires??
By the way - I received a letter last September informing me about the account changes which stated that I would be on the Current Account (and not Current Account Advance) I hope they wont just decide to scrap my Debit Card facility and put me in a Basic Account!
I 've done really well during the past 2 years - not missed a single payment anywere as well as recovered from Cancer!!
Any ideas anyone??? Thanks x0 -

First of all, welcome to MSE forums!! It is great to see you are getting on top of your finances and are doing well. You are indeed very brave! What surprised me is you had a managed loan 1% above BoE base rate! Mine is 7% above BoE base rate! And only for 3K!! Do you have a copy of your paperwork showing those details?
Anyway about the visa debit card, if you are in current account, then you are entitled to VISA debit card. Just call HSBC and say your card is damaged or even lost and you need a new one. You should get the updated visa debit version. Don't listen to those who said you can't have visa debit, they don't know what they are talking about.0 -
Hi Noa
Thanks for your prompt reply - I''ve been following your posts with interest! YES INDEED I do have all necessary paperwork re Managed Loan offering the VERY favourable terms of 1% above base rate interest - I'm sure they're kicking themselves now!! Lol!
The gentleman with the foreign accent from HSBC this morning said he would make a few checks regarding ordering a Visa Debit card. After 2 to 3 minutes of listening to the lovely music (not!!!) he came back and said I couldnt have one and to try again in 6 months time!
I then asked him which card I would get when Solo expires and he said Visa o'r Maestro!!!!!! Unbelieveable x0 -
You will get a Visa card when it expires. They can't make all the cards at once thats impossible so they are drip feeding them into accounts etc.
But if you cut your card up and phone up saying you've lost it or whatever they will send you a new Visa card (although some people have been getting Maestro still).0 -

LOL.You stalking me?? Just call HSBC back and say you need a new card because your card is damaged. They WILL send you a new card via post within 3-5 working days. Thats what i did and i got a VISA debit card.
Having a solo card is pretty s*hit because kids have them...i had them for 2 years and it was embarrassing. Call them now and get a new card! You will feel much happier when you get the Visa (hopefully) or maestro.0 -
Thanks for the advice. I'll phone them again and try the "damaged card" line. Will let you know what they say.
As of the "stalking" - the amount of time I've spent reading all relative threads on MSE - I could be accused of stalking tens and tens and tens of contributors!!!!!!! Lol!
