Visa Debit, or just Visa. As noted above, unless it explicitly states Visa Electron then that's the wrong option.0 -

They have to be online to make authorisations. Basically a glorified electron cardTrying to only spend money when I absolutely have to.Barclaycard: £4559-1500 = £3059 (Will have £900 to add to that end of September)Loan from Friend = £20000 -
It will work on the train, to buy a ticket, as those machines are not programmed to recognise these cards. Indeed a Visa Electron card also works in them, and recognised as Visa, it is simply the staff are warned not to accept them as they can bounce.
I have used a Cashplus pre-paid card on a train when I had no money on it for a £64 ticket, which I obviously put on when I was contacted by them.
I think "never-in-doubt" needs a new title.0 -

im sure loads use hsbc cards at petrol paystations/train pay stations0 -
that can't be right, else these new cards are worse than the old maestro which worked everywhere!

Agreed, all of mine with other banks also use 'verified by VISA' for online transactions but function normally for all other transactions.
I'm currently awaiting delivery of my new HSBC VISA Debit Card, and have no doubt that it will operate in exactly the same way as any of my others.0 -
I've used my HSBC VISA Debit in many Pay@Pump petrol stations, never-in-doubt is simply wrong.0

If you got Maestro before, you will get a full (non All-Auth) Visa Debit. The all-auth cards replace Solo.0
