I thought it was a reasonable question. All it takes is a bit of planning rather than leaving everything until the very last minute or at least make sure you have the item to cook in before buying the food.
If I'd said "there, there, Argos are such !!!!!!!! I'm sure if you write to their Head Office and tell them what happened they'll send you some vouchers for compensation" presumably this would meet with your approval?
Yes it would! Why bother telling the OP what they should have done - it's a bit late now, isn't it?I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0 -
The reason i brought the food first was firstly it was easier to carry a couple of food items and then collect the heavy item (as someone has pointed out) and also the food shop shut earlier than Argos.Wins for 2011: ........................

Thats rubbish of them to do that! When I worked in retail we had to stay open until 5:30 and would have to stay until 6 (at least)to cash up/tidy the shop unpaid. Some miserable customer reported us for asking her to please make her way to the till as the store was closing (this was at 5:30) so we were told we couldn't do this anymore and had to wait until they had all left of their own accord. This was the arcadia group though, not really known for being the most caring employer...0

Daughter works for Argos and I can tell you that the Argos extra she works in does not close until the stated time. I know because I always pick her up and she always 15-20 minutes late comming out, they wait for every shopper to leave and the public are not rushed (she does get paid for this) also everytime without exception you get people trying to enter the store well past closing time and can become irate when stopped I cant believe how some people are.0

I work in a bank and although we open at 9am and finish at 5pm, we are expected to be there from 8.45am to 5.15pm in order to cash up and put the tills away and complete the security checks. and the doors do not shut until 5pm, therefore if a customer comes in at 1 min to 5pm, then he gets served. that is pretty disgusting behaviour by the argos staff of this particular store and bad publicity for them too!BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0

My wife works in Poundland and the store is open 9am - 6pm normal trading. What they do is pop the barrier down halfway about 5.55pm and then call out into the shop to get people to the tills,no one would stop anyone going in after 5.55pm but the barrier just helps people to realise that "browsing" time is very short!! What annoys my wife is its the little old ladies who trawl around at 5.55pm that usually have all day to get there and browse lol, however I think Argos were out of order with you Zoe and 4.30pm means 4.30pm especially when its just collect and no browse. Retail is very difficult to monitor and police and as my wife says it would be nice if people did realise we had homes to go too, but if the shops open - its open and that is all there is to it.Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

i used to work in waitrose and about 5 mins before the shop closed the manager would stand at the door and if anyone tried to come in he would say sorry but we are closing in 5 mins. I always thought that was fair enough as those who worked on the tills (obviously) had to stay until all the customers were gone. I remember one time i worked on the tills and a customer was taking forever to do their shopping. After about 10 mins the manager said i could go and he would serve the customer. So it is a bit annoying when people turn up at the last minute as it holds everyone up.
Although i feel in this case they should have served you as, like you said, you weren't going to do any browsing. I certainly wouldn't have minded serving you, i think i can spare a couple of minutes of my time to help someone out.
I guess people are reluctant to work past when their shift finishes because they have to turn up for work on time, so why shouldn't they finish on time- espically if they dont get paid for it.0 -
I have sympathy for the OP, I agree that stores need to 'go the extra mile' if they are to survive in this harsh economic climate. I tried to order 2 pork pies at the local bakery (not cheap, they cost nearly £11 for 2) and was told unless the order was over £30 they would not reserve them for me. In the shop they have a tin on the counter decorated with wrapping paper and tinsel for tips!!!
With regards to working unpaid overtime, try the NHS, I have lost count of how many hours I have done for free over the years but its just part of the job when you are serving the public.
The reality of todays world is that if you don't want to to do the job then there will be lots of people who will.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Same with the store i work used to work in, the shutters come down 5 minutes before, no more people come in and you then get all the customers in the shop out. Its regular in all stores really. Asda stops letting people in about 15 minutes before they actually close.0

Were you tempted to put a piece of paper saying "sorry you didn't reserve a tip" in the tip box?0
