I am cancelling my card as soon as I have my missing 4,000 points. Mind you its taking ages to get them so it might not be cancelled so soon.

Used card 8th Jan a day or two after receiving it but I did apply in December using the special link and it is acknowledged as such entitling me to 6000 points. The normal day to day nectar points were transferred to an existing nectar account a couple of weeks later ok but no sign of all the different versions of 1000 2000 or 6000 points at all. Rung twice so far with two different answers but both seemed to have some awareness and understanding and both were friendly and helpful. The first answer has proved to be wrong but maybe explained by the second opinion.

    As I understand it now

First call offerred to process manually 6000 points overnight but this didn't happen. The second call advised they were now reluctant to process manually as they then had to reverse out again later but if the points didn't go through by Feb 10th ( month after their record of first spend ) they would process manually if I rang again.
First 2000 should be added in the first month after the first spend but the timing of my first spend was borderline but looks like just too late to pick up the normal monthly update schedule.
Second additional 4000 points are credited on the monthly anniversary of the first spend ie 10th Feb in my case

If I was really confident this would happen as stated I would not be unhappy but suspect it won't. If it doesn't go through I would be really tempted to cancel on principle but I actually like the card and the staff seem good, if frustrated by this particular offering - what a difference from the cable tv or mobile phone companies when I have had to call them in the past.

I don't feel just letting it ride and all will come good is going to get the right result in many cases. It seems their records are not great so manual intervention and therefore customer contact is quite likely needed.

    Useful post rogerb - thanks.

It's the first time (I think) that the 4000 extra points has been linked with the one month anniversary of the first spend.

I am amazed you would consider cancelling 'on principle'. I keep going on
(and upsetting people from time to time!) about card-holders being in such a hurry to have it sorted instantly.

The rationale of the MSE website is milking the organisations instead of them milking us. If you give up on the 4000 points, they've won (again!).

Just to let you know that I still haven't had my full 6000 points. Today is 4 days beyond the date Amex promised to update my rewards account. Should we announce this "fraud" to the press?

    Thanks Clairejoanne for above list!
Re the Amex card: We did everything by the book, including spending in the card before the deadline, and got only 2000 points. We contacted them a few days ago and they promised to give us the other 4000 by next points update. Let's hope they deliver.
In the meantime, we are using the card for the supermarket because it gives us extra Nectar points.

Totally agree with you Schiff. When I said I was tempted to tear up card on principle I meant after getting the points through, but not giving up before.
Took me a number of attempts and months to get promised introduction M&S vouchers from MoreThan recently as well as decent settlements from a number of larger corporations over the years incl Lloyds Bank and Zenith. You inevitably end up writing to ( or at least threatening to ) executive mgt and then only get resolution by them using their own specialized customer relations staff to solve issues.
I've got a feeling this AMEX problem is a one off and want to keep the card and indeed wouldn't have applied for it in the first place just for the £30. I just wish you didn't so often have to push so hard in the end just to get your rights. I would much rather be relaxed about it, and it's very early days on this one though, and it sounds like another poster has been told the same as me about the sweep of the system planned for completion during Feb.

I suppose I'm very lucky in having plenty of time to 'push so hard'.
It can be hard work, frustrating and nerve jangling but there's always the comforting little feeling you get when you eventually succeed.

I have always found that being pleasant, injecting a bit of gentle humour and being understanding and reasonable works well. The people we speak to are not the principals of the outfit we are having a go at, they are just people like us. So, if you establish a rapport with them, they are more likely to be encouraged to go out of their way to help you, than if you rant and rave, curse and swear, etc.

You only need to think about it from their point of view.
