Done some research. How many of these made headline news?

I bet no one unless local heard of any of these incidents but oh if its a staffy or rottie then of course the savages! how dare they! put them to sleep!

The first three are all large potentially dangerous dogs:confused:
A Rhodesian ridgeback, a German Shepherd & a bull mastiff, whats your point:rolleyes:
The last two are still far from small house/pet dogs, an Afghan hound & a Border Collie:rolleyes:

As one also happened in Bahrain in the Gulf Coast, perhaps thats why its not in the news here:rolleyes:

Thing is, if a chihuahua goes mental & decides to "savage" me, I can toss it away, if it does it to a child, I can save it easily.
    IF a rottweiler goes mental, I'm screwed:eek:
    Thats the difference.

The bit in blue, I don't know what dog attack on a child you are reffering to, but I honestly can't believe I read that, you're not a mother I take it:confused:

hmm what's being a parent got to do with facts? Newspapers said they mauled the kid, they DIDN'T, has !!!!!! all to do with if I have kids or not it's the FACT.

As I said I don't know the case.
Was the child injured by the dogs?

Ah what happened in the papers was they own a pub here & had two Rotts as Guard Dogs that were never let in & they wouldn't even touch, pretty bright idea  Anyway they got in the pub & apparently mauled the child. What actually happened was one of the dogs picked the child up & dropped her (Didn't shake her or anything just dropped her) & she died from the injuries. But no they shouldn't have had guard dogs of any breed IMO. My Aunt had a Pub & Dobermans and would never have had kids in there.

Who exactly said it was alright?? I just said they shouldn't have had a guard dog of ANY breed! Point is the papers were making it out to be a savage attack NOT an accident.
  • sorry but ive ignored most of the posts re is the rottie a dangerous breed and no i dont think it is but my main worry is that as it is part rottie - if it clamps onto DD it will take me longer to beat it off her where if it was a smaller dog i think i would have a better chance of getting it to let go of her - either by tugging it, kicking it, hitting it (not one for animal cruelty but if i had to hit it with something i would have no second thoughts about it!)

The person who mentioned i should try moving - i shouldnt have to. I have been on to the HA and they said its nothing to do with them (!) apprently its up to the tennant and council to sort it - great bunch a help that was!

I thought i was doing well, ive not seen him past two days and just when i thought they might of done something about him he appeared this morning when i was leaving to work. you've never seen me run so fast in my life, DD in one hand with car keys, Our jack russell in the other hand and my work bag all in the car in 5 seconds flat. Possibly a world record!

There was a comment made about i should get money to get the fence up - the problem is my OH is already in over 30k's worth of debt WHICH WE ARE DEALING WITH and every bit of money goes towards this. I already owe my parents and his family are more Takers than givers (hence the 6k debt they got for him) i've been down the local tip but apprently your not allowed to buy wood from there - although they gladly sell other things!

err no offence intended Lily but the child still died as a result of actions by the dog, anyway I find it hard to believe that she died just from being "dropped" by a dog, they are big dogs but even so. And if it was just the one dog why were both of them PTS? Also, whos to say that had she not died when dropped the dogs would not have carried on attacking her?

They didn't attack her in the first place & there's nothing to say they would or wouldn't have after, or anyone else for that matter. There's nothing to say ANY dog won't. And being dropped onto your head can kill a child no matter from what height as this case shows. They shouldn't have been in that place at all, they were guard dogs that not even the family went near. And as for why were both put to sleep, I imagine because they were guard dogs nobody could get near & them getting in & the accident probably made the Owners see sense. But BOTH or even ONE didn't attack any child.

Kids die through being suffocated by dogs, doesn't mean the dog was attacking them or viscious, accidents happen. BREED doesn't make a dog viscious tho and the papers can't be believed all the time as this case shows. There's no doubt the dogs weren't viscious, they were. BUt they didn't MAUL any child & they should NOT have been in a family environment IMO.

Please don't run! You'll be MORE likely to trigger it's prey drive or excite it & to make your Daughter worry. Easier said than done I know. Personally i'd be at the cop shop refusing to leave until they came out to it. No, you definitely shouldn't have to move. There is a way to kill a dog if it attacks but obviously I can't say here, but please go & tell the cops you won't leave until they assess it.

The Owners could at least keep it out of the front room when they're out & sort the fence & not let it into the garden if your Daughter is in yours, or muzzle it if it has to go out while she is. I totally understand how you mean that it'd have stronger jaws, there's no doubt if they attack they do more damage at all. Definitely take pics if it gets into the garden & ring them non stop until they come out.

I really feel for you living next door to these people x
