yes, I have heard the presence of the nasal bone is a good sign and that is one of the things they check for. Honestly, we already discussed it when we were pregnant with Liam that we would still have the baby if it was high risk for Downs syndrome, but that we weren't willing to take the risk of miscarriage from the amnio, even if it is small. I will just have the blood tests and see where we are. If it's high risk, then we will prepare for it, just in case.

Oh, I was so hungry - made myself a toasted cheese sandwich - now I'm nauseated again. A few days I am nauseated if I don't eat - today I am nauseated when I do.:rotfl: My system is so messed up! Gotta love m/s.

Oh, and points to my midwife - she didn't say anything at all about me being overweight. Apparently it's not a huge concern to her or the GP.

Hi Guys, This is actually my first post and i wanted to know how do i join in. I am due on February 15th for my first child. Im going to be having a baby boy!

About 10 years ago I sat in on a debate primarily with some student doctors but with consultant experts adding their two penneth and we all agreed that babies are cute.

I had the very specific question of What happens when your baby needs 24 hour care for the rest of its life (and life expectancy can be 40 or 50 years and parents will be between 60 and 90 having to change a nappy on a grown adult and move them around from bed to bath, dressing them etc). What happens to that child/adult if the parents die - who'll look after the child then?

I didn't stay to the end of the debate because it was so emotive but i know there aren't ever any easy answers and it all boils down to personal choice.

I know And I'm certainly not arguing with anyone who wishes to carry on and have a Downs child. My reasons in brief are that my aunt was severely mentally disabled - more so than a Downs child - but seeing the effects on my family that this had was devastating. The effect on the other children despite my grandparents efforts when they were younger was definitely obvious and again on the rest of the family... Having seen first hand what it is like then I couldn't put my family through that heartbreak again or place myself in my grandparents shoes when I have a choice that they never had... But as I say it is a VERY personal choice. My husbands view is that no matter what happens it will be loved and cherished, but he also respected my wishes for not wishing to have continued should it have been a downs baby...

It is a choice that every woman (and hopefully partner) has to make on their own... my views are not the same as anyone elses as no-one else will have exactly the same experience in their lives - and even then they might not have reached the same decision because we're all individuals...

why did your doc tell you that about eating? are you overweight?

No, I'm in the normal range for BMI...but I often do feel a bit large compared to a lot of the women over here...who all seem to have impossibly skinny legs!! I have also so far failed to find a shop that can sell me a 30G bra ..so I'm already dreading trying to get bras as my boobs expand...a trip to Bravissimo or John Lewis is definitely called for this Christmas! (Sorry, moan over!) I have been warned that the doctors here do not like you to put on much weight when you are pregnant, so I suspect that this is where the advice stems from....
