  • I am seeing my doctor again on Friday..when hopefully she can give me some scan pictures to show our families at Christmas :j. At the moment I'm trying to banish all pessimistic thoughts that something will have gone wrong in the week since my scan...why won't my brain just shut up on the subject?

I'm also currently trying to ignore the call of the sausage rolls that are sitting in the fridge, just begging me to eat them . Sadly when my doctor said to eat little and often she also told me not to eat more than I usually do....hmmm...

Trig we don't get the test here in Oxon either... and again it's £180 for it if you want it. I had the blood test (and results came last week so less than 2 weeks) as by then I had decided not to have the scan - work are being difficult anyway and it was just easier not to...
I don't like my MW anyway so I probably would have had the bloodtest just to annoy her even if we weren't interested...
I wanted to know what my risk level was (very low btw...) which I expected but it was really nice to see it on paper... if i hadn't I would have worried all the way through if I shouldn't have had the scan etc... And my personal view (and I am very aware not everyone will agree) is that I do not wish to bring a Downs child into the world... I have my own reasons for feeling that way and so I know if it was a very high likelyhood I would have the further test...

You stand your ground and have the tests you feel will help put your mind at ease :)

I was just surprised really. In Devon, we got it automatically. But not here apparently. I did ask her if because I'm older if they would do it because my risk is automatically deemed higher, but she said no. We simply don't have the money for the extra £180, so that's out. So I will just have the blood tests, but no amnio even if it comes back higher risk.

I'm not going to argue with your opinion as everyone is entitled to one, but a downs baby is so cute (it's not like it's a puppy though so more thought has to be given to it than that)

I know...but I already succumbed once earlier this morning!! :o Now, on the other hand, I haven't had any carrot cake yet and that must count as one of my five a day!

disclaimer!!! this post is in no way diagnostic nor should it be taken as advice

I've had a fair few scans with this pregnancy (at 6, 10, 12, 16 and 20 weeks so far). One book I bought by a professor Regan (I think it was leslie regan) had a couple of pages dedicated to nuchal fold and anomaly scanning and one thing I clearly remember reading was about the nasal bone at the 12 week scan if it was present it was a low risk of being a Downs baby and if it was absent it was a higher risk of a downs baby here

Because of my previous pregnancy problems, my scans are carried out by a consultant in feto-maternal medicine rather than a general sonographer and the nasal bone was clearly seen at 10 weeks but that didn't stop them checking the nuchal fold at 12 weeks or checking for markers for Edward's syndrome either.

  • No sausage rolls for me. I'm craving something sweet... maybe I will have the toast I didn't have when I missed out breakfast earlier. I could have it with nutella or marmalade or strawberry jam.... decisions decisions.
