Hello ladies,
Well I have had the busiest week at my new job! A real baptism of fire, working late most nights, and I am utterly exhausted now!I always was the 1st to be asked to proof read stuff at work, but I don't think I'm good enough at all the grammar rules to have a proper job -humph being paid to read could be a fun job!
Did you know that the level that the sun is written at is a reading age of about 7 and the broadsheets like the times are at RA of 15
Not as much fun as you think. I was a proofreader in my last role, and am now a production editor which means I do a bit of proofing but commission proofreaders and copyeditors. I really like it but hte stuff you read is usually pretty dull.slscarborough wrote: »Are you all aware of the Health in Pregnancy Grant? For all of you due after 6th April apparently if you call 0845 366 7785 to obtain a form you are entitled to a one of payment of £190.00. This is not a means tested benefit - just have to get your midwife to sign the form and send of after you reach 25 weeks.
I was, but this has prompted me to write it in my diary so I remember to apply for it when I hit 25 weeks.
Sami - your scan pic is lovely! How come you got three? Did you ask for extra? How exciting for you. x

Hello. Really pleased as found out I'm pregnant this week after trying for the last eight months. Suddenly feeling out of my depth though so advice appreciated.
Firstly, booked in at the GPs on Monday for an appointment. What's likely to happen there?
Secondly, Not sure how to work out my expecting date. Had a period on 3 Nov which was all normal. Then sort of had another on 6 Dec so seemed different to usual. This was a lot later then usual and was very short. Also, for those with knowledge of them I have used a Clearblue fertility monitor for several months now but this month I didn't have a peak reading which I find strange since I've managed to get pregnant. Will the doctor just go from my Dec period date to work out the expecting date and will I just have to wait for a 12 week scan to confirm how far along I am?
Lastly, can anyone recommend a book on all things pregnancy, sort of a step by step of what to expect? I've looked on Amazon but was overwhelmed by the amount of books out there.
Thanks in advance. Although a regular on MSE I have changed my username so family don't know pregnant.0 -

Kate1 - congratulations!
Don't expect too much from the GP visit - they vary widely and most of the time they just make a note on the system and tell you to book in with the midwife...
As for due date - it sounds to me like the dec bleed was more likely an implantation bleedthey don't happen to everyone and can vary but if it was very short and didn't feel like a period then I'd guess it wasn't
That means the date they will use is the 3rd of Nov and if your cycle is normally about 28 days then you're due on the 10th of August and you're around 9 weeks pregnant!
Which means you're nearly through the most nailbiting stage already lucky you!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Congratulations KateI would (for now) go by the 3rd November, as sounds like the December date was probably an implantation bleed (when the egg gets its self comfy in your womb lining). That might not be what the doctor/midwife says, but when you get your scan at 12 weeks they will measure the baby and from that they can give you a more accurate due date.
The general consensus round here is that GPs don't really care that you're pregnant - they will probably say congratulations, hopefuly give you some basic info (what not to eat, make sure you're taking folic acid and not smoking etc) and tell you how to get yourself booked in with a midwife. Oh, and you will probably get given the first of the million-and-one leaflets you will accumulate over the next 8 months!
In other news, I've definitely had a show now, but nothing else is really happening - a few twinges but to be honest I've had FAR worse period pains. I'm going to head off for an early night soon - I want to get some sleep in before things start to speed up a bit, as knowing my luck I will end up having to get up and have a bath at some point in the early hours of the morning
Oh, and my body has chosen today to give in to the germs DH has been suffering from all week, so I'm coughing like a 40 a day smoker - If I end up with tears from coughing at the wrong moment.while baby is born I will never forgive himIsabella Molly born 14th January 2009
