Aww well done you for helping it! I'm shocked the Vet didn't at least give it pain relief. Please call the SSPCA, they should help, I don't like em either but at least the deer will be ok x0

im in angus. scotland,
i hope that it does come round after a nights rest, and that the bleed is something that will heal ok,
all legs seem ok, vet checked them a bit, and when i had rope round its neck at road side i checked fronts , then lifted it by them, which is when i noticed the blood,
fingers crossed, only clipped by car, and in shock, and ok to set free tomorrow,THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0 -
Ok growing up with an uncle who is a professional hunter (i guess here he'd be a games keeper? it's his job to control the wildlife population and keep it healthy etc) he used to get called out to incidents with deers if they were on any of his "patches". If the deer is not well enough to walk away from an RTA then I'm sorry to say it's probably not going to make it. They are VERY suseptible to shock and once in shock rarely make it...
I would call 09061 800132 - this is for Wildlife aid in Leatherhead Surrey. It's 24 hour and is charged at 50p per minute(to help them with funding) but they know what they are doing...
Rule of thumb with any wild animal (apart from young fawns!) - if you can touch them or pick them up: They need professional help!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

i totally agree mrstine, it had perked up a bit after being in the car, and had a little struggle, i put it in a duvet cover to carry to shed, i thought/ hoped that when i got leadrope out of car( always carry horses leadrope in car) id have a fight to get it round neck etc,
have delt with all sorts of wildlife in past, just never a deer,
i hope that it will make it, when drove past it on way to vets it was facing road, on way back it was further in undergrowth, i am prepaed to go out at first light and asses the situation,THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0 -
If it's still alive do call wildlife aid in the morning even if it's only for advice... they have far more experience with injured wildlife than most vetsDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Mrs Tine's post made me think of something else - is it possible that the deer belongs to someone's estate (are there any landed gentry nearby)? They would typically have their own Gamekeeper to deal with such a case wouldn't they?
My knowledge of Scotland is limited to Monarch of the Glen I'm afraid (despite being 1/8th Scottish myself) but I do wonder if all the deer have to belong to someone (like the swans belong to Her Maj)?
Having said that, I bet Lord and Lady McSporran's number isn't in the book anyway.Blonde: Unemployed: Bankrupt.

This may help
" In fact, ALL wildlife casualities should be taken to or, if it is a large animal (i.e. deer, badger, fox or swan), collected by a wildlife rescue group. There is an established network of over 200 rescue centres nation-wide which can be reached by phoning Tiggywinkles on: 01844 292292"
You really do need expert help.
Good luck, full of admiration for you trying to help. Shame on the Vet.0 -
not from a lord or ladies ( the mcsporrans)land.lol. cant believe how many are around though,
will def call numbers i have been given, wish there was an actual wildlife rescue group here, might find someone who will travel.
have phoned a friend also, who has a veterinary type book on wildlife, and mentioned they dont eat dry food, although i doubt it will be eating for a while,
at least its in a warm dry dark comfortable place,THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0 -

Mmmmmm possibly... but the vet should have been aware of that if that was the case. Common deer I think rarely get reported to the landowner but I'm not scottish either so don't know and DH is engrosed in something so despite being scottish ain't gonna give me a sensible answer lol
I know if it's tagged it must be reported. I'm guessing as you haven't mentioned a hulking great eartag it's not tagged
As a point of interest I think the only accidents involving deer that MUST be reported to the police are ones that happen on the Queens estate... I must ask next door next time he's about - he's a copper and I am sure we've had this conversation at some point a while ago...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
