See now i'm thinking if you are 30 miles away from broughty ferry then you must be up by brechin or maybe montrose.

The deer centre is a visitor attraction full of rescued deer. I'm hoping they may divert somewhere for assistance.

I would call 09061 800132 - this is for Wildlife aid in Leatherhead Surrey. It's 24 hour and is charged at 50p per minute(to help them with funding) but they know what they are doing...

Rule of thumb with any wild animal (apart from young fawns!) - if you can touch them or pick them up: They need professional help!

I was just about to suggest that you contact the lovely folk at Wildlife Aid, they are AMAZING! They will at least be able to provide you with some advice...

It's heartbreaking when this happens, I commend you for not just driving on :T

  • couldnt drive on, could think of nothing else if had,
wasnt sure about putting it into brand new car though, and had to put it in boot, which is small, very small, but that ment it wouldnt move round when driving on twisty roads,

Has the Deer survived the night? I hope he/she is, it is digusting when no one seems to want to help you. If you can't get anywhere with anyone then phone the Mirror or Sun paper to help you, i'm sure they will get someones attention :D
  • Hi all,
    deer has survived the night,
my mother looked through the window this morning, and it wasnt were we had put it, but ust have been there somewhere, our shed has several rooms, and has loads of stuff in it, anyway, she left all the doors open?
i went to look for it as concerned it may need help. it had come out of the room it had been in and is now lying in next bit, at door, i put head round door to see, and it looked at me, i put hand out, and itsniffed me, i dont think it is that old, but its not scared, but could be in pain? i dont know, will do some phoning.
the wildlife rescue last night, who cant help said if it was moving about to let itgo, but as it is still lying down, although has got up to walk there, i dont want to. have given it some carrot tops, maybe itll eat,
will phone a deer place, as they might be more helpful,
theres also alot of men shooting around here this morning, so i dont want it to get up yet,
didnt really expect it to make it through the night,
doesnt seem to have bleed a huge amount from its back end, will keep an eye on it.
THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.

Have you tried Petterden SSPCA just north of Dundee? 01382 380593

How did you get on with Shanwell at Broughty Ferry? They look like they're well set up...

There must be loads of Gamekeepers about - mostly up the Glens etc right enough... do none of the local vets have numbers fr any they know ? The all have dogs etc so will be known to the vets.

In cases such as this it's often usual not to give pain killers as this could cause the deer to injure itself even further if it can't feel the pain. If the injuries had been life-threatening then the vet would have PTS the animal anyway.

I just wish people would think first before immediately slating vets. I think they are slightly more qualified to know what they're doing!

Maybe you could give the vet the details of the wildlife centre you found for future use if they weren't aware it existed ;)

PS you're doing exactly the right thing in leaving it to rest and recover in a quiet place before releasing it :A
