Hi there. Wondering if anyone can input on this one. I am trying to help an old neighbour who is a pensioner in his 70's. He ordered a sideboard at the local MFI store on the 8th October 2008 and paid £392.60 CASH.

He found it cheaper elswhere and cancelled the order. No problem, they said, we will send out a refund cheque. It never ever arrived.

I've been dealing with MFI in administration and sent in the claim form along with copies of invoices etc. Have heard absolutely nothing.

Any input at all would be greatly appreciated as the poor bloke is in bits.

    Cheers!

  • hi my husband was an MFI kitchen fitter - and i'm wandering if any other fitters have received their outstanding money yet? we're still owed thousands and haven't heard anything from the administrators since the initial forms.
we heard from another fitting co this week that they had received their money in the last week, and wanted to know if anyone else was actually getting paid?

ps if anyone is still looking for a fitter in the Oxford area let me know!! ;)

Dan Cordina Telephone number is the MCR offices in Portland Street London They have a Website, ask for him by name re MFI, ask in such a way that they think you have spoken to him before. Good Luck.
  • I paid 5000 for a kitchen using a credit card cheque. The credit card company say this is not covered by the consumer credit act and refused to refund my money. What can I do?
  • Hi all, finally been tidying and found I still have a MFI 888 desk (Thurlstone 1107) unopened in the box it came in last year. I bought it as part of a Thurlstone package but decided to only use the corner desk. Would be open to offers, PM for details. Thanks.

    Hi Fiona,

My understanding is that Credit card cheques are treated as if you were withdrawing cash on your credit card and charge handling fees of typically 2.5 per cent of the value of the cheque, and as such the credit card company are not involved in the transaction with MFI so Section 75 does not help you if you pay for goods using a credit card cheque.

If I'm wrong on this I'm sure someone will soon correct me but I dont think I am.

    Sorry.

    Mark
  • Hi, have had most of my kitchen delivered but still missing a few items... Paid on credit card so should be able to get some money back but have been so long going through the process of bouncing between the MFI administrators and the credit card company I have unfortunately lost the original receipt.

I'm fully aware that I am an idiot but would be most grateful if somebody out there could provide me with a copy of the last mfi kitchen pricelist??

Do you have a branch of 'The Range' near you? They are selling the bankrupt stock left over from MFI. They also sell it online (google 'the range, mfi') which is useful if you know what item you need.
They get new items every week and the prices are much lower than they were in MFI - I had an oak mirror from there for £35 that was £125 in MFI.
