What is the situation now for those of us who paid cash/cheques?
Why are companies allowed to trade and take cash/cheque deposits, but are not held accountable to the payer? I was always led to believe taking money for goods and not providing those goods was FRAUD THEFT!
We are a blind partially sighted couple living on Disability Benefits, we had to borrow some of our deposit, last August, NO company should be allowed to operate, if it is unable to refund any monies taken as deposit, the Directors SHOULD not be allowed to hide behind the LTD trading Laws, if they have knowingly taken customers money, without being in a position to refund it, AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT.
My neighbour is a builder, he has several sheds loads of MFI kitchens, he has purchased since MFI closed down, I have seen in some of his houses, MFI kitchens (similar to the £1500.00 kitchen we were buying) he has bought these for the amount of the deposit we had lost £500.00, yet as a cash/cheque payer, we have NOTHING. It says in the paper currency “I PROMISE TO PAY THE BEARER THE SUM OF…….” But it seems the money was not worth the paper it was printed on. I love the way the banks have built a super little safety net for their credit card users.
I still feel gutted and annoyed this bunch have acted the way they have, we are STILL struggling to catch with the money paid out, it has had a knock on effect over the last year0 -

Hi there,
We were stuck for some space cream doors and ended up buying B&Q Cooke & Lewis High Gloss Cream. Even though they are next to the MFI ones, you would not be able to tell the difference unless you knew.
I hope that helps0 -
thanks - that really helps - we might finish the kitchen yet !!!0

i see that the mfi site has been updated .......... CONTRIBUTIONS for cash/cheque and other payment?? . i didnt realise that when i handed £2700 cash for a kitchen that i was going to be made to feel like a charity.
i still havent got a kitchen as i carnt afford to buy 1 as of yet . surely there must be something someone can do .
this is quite clearly THEFT. or am i wrong .0 -
I totally agree. I have been trying to help a pensioner who handed over £350 in Cash for a sideboard, cancelled his order as he had found one cheaper and then was told he would receive a refund by cheque.
During this time, MFI went down. He has received nothing to date and we have done all what has been asked (Filled in the claim forms etc).
Yes, if you are a vulnerable pensioner who doesn't use credit cards it looks like MFI will keep your money. Absolutely disgusting!0 -
it would be interesting to know how much money the administrators have taken to date..i think i can kiss my £2700 goodbye..:mad::mad::mad:0
