MFI Administration article discussion

I got through to someone today who told me that there is less than a slim chance that any deliveries will be made next week as the administrator's first priority is to sell the showroom stock and close the stores, then they will move on to going through the warehouses to determine if orders can be fulfilled. He also said that even if the item was in the warehouse they had no distribution network in place for it to be delivered.
He was helpful in giving an honest response but it doesn't give me much hope. I think it's clear that they need some inward cashflow (from selling showroom stock) before they can pay the delivery guys and/or fitters to deliver and/or install. It is my guess, therefore, that for those deliveries of which the due date is imminent, rather than determining whether or not the customer's item is a) in stock and b) can be delivered, they are simply cancelling the order. Unfortunately, a refund is no good to me at all. I need the furniture as I've installed and assembled all the other pieces (it was ordered in July after all!). I am unable to get anything of the same colour or size that would fit!

We had a kitchen ordered and paid for (on credit card) in August to be delivered on January 15th 2009.
Given that if we get it delivered then (unlikely) we will have no after-sales service and no way of getting any bits they might have left off the order we really don't want it.
At the moment we can't do anything until MFI actually say they aren't delivering. We were wondering if we can tell MFI (politely) what they can do with their kitchen - in other words CANCEL. If we do this can we still claim our money back from the credit card company?
We don't want to do anything that makes things more complicated, but we do want to get on and sort out our kitchen. It seems that we're likely to have to wait until the week before delivery is due before we hear any more from MFI. There are loads of companies out there selling kitchens and we would like to be able to go and buy one.
Anyone know the answer to this one?0 -
Visa Chargeback
We ordered and paid for our kitchen back in september and paid the deposit on a visa debit card, we then however (stupidly) paid the balance of £2000 in cash. We have been told that our order has been cancelled have now tried to claim via the visa chargeback. Does anbody know if like the credit companies, the banks will cover the whole amount and not just what was paid on the card. Long shot i know!!!0 -
Just been in my local MFI store this morning and was told that the main man from MCR was there yesterday, and they were told they were closing imminently, i.e. this week coming. Kind of ties in with fact they are saying there will be a statement on refunds for debit card, cheque and cash payments on the 15th of December - as you can imagine the stampede when they announce there is not enough money in the pot to pay everyone.0

I collected my Kutchen Lab kitchen yesterday from MFI Bedford that was supposed to be delivered on the 1st December - thank god as i thought i would lose out on the lot as i had paid via cheque!

We did the same as you - paid a deposit on my credit card and kitchen was due to be fitted in the new year - no date yet agreed. I want to get a refund and go to Howdens. However there doesn't appear to be a mechanism to cancel the order.
Also - should I pay off the balance on my credit card and then get company to chase the refund?0 -

I think its all down to your bank with the chargeback scheme(see my earlier post) Barclays were adamant that they would only reimburse what I spent on the card and only if the CC company wouldn'y pay up.

Many thanks for the advice, I've since spoken to legal people and they say your are totally correct. Just have to wait for the administrators to say they won't deliver our kitchen on the 19th and We can claim the money back, looks like it will be a very long winded process though.0 -
No idea. I just checked the Howdens website but they do not have a range similar to the Kennington. Let's wait and see what today brings then will have to look elsewhere. Nightmare!
We bought the Kennington kitchen, was fitted at beginning of November, one door for integrated extractor fan outstanding, due to !!!! up when MFI salesman placed the order. It was reordered and was supposed to be coming by TNT 3 days after MFI went bust. So fell into the period which they say, means we've got no chance of receiving it. However, my briliant fitter spotted almost exactly the same units/doors in Magnet inSwindon, and I've taken a drawer front there to compare for colour etc. The colour and style is exactly the same, same smooth finish, Edwardian style etc. Only slight difference on the edge of the moulding, but I don't think it'll be that different or noticeable really, so I'll probably go with that. Only problem is, I think they are more expensive. I was quoted £145 for just the 600 x 480 door to go over the extractor unit, which seems a lot to me? Anyway, if it helps anyone else, try Magnet for the Kennington range.0 -

We too are in your position(s) Ours was due to be delived on 20th January, and we paid a deposit of £1700 on the credit card, which we have since paid off. I cant get an answer from anyone yet whether we are going to get our kitchen delivered, my guess is not. But we cant do anything until we have been told, what a mess, but I do appreciate we are not in as bad a position as some, who have been without a kitchen at all, or the poor fitters who are left owed £1000's. Any advice or news would be really welcome.0 -
Okay first and foremost, id like to wish all of you the best of luck out there, getting your orders fulfilled from MFI. And my condolonces to the staff and fitters.
Is there a site admin viewing this thread, we need a sticky page for this thread for any important contact numbers or information that may be of use to all of us. Ie successful collections/refunds.
Can anyone supply the details for this Kuchenlab depot in Bedford, we also paid a hefty sum via debit card for a kitchen + appliances, which failed to arrive late NOV due to a 'driver strike'.
I think it's important we make sure any person affected views this thread so we can keep eacother updated on any new information. And in the event we are not offered a refund, collectively decide how we go forward with this and make sure we get our money back. It's not on, some fat cat somewhere is sitting there with their feet up, and our money in their account.
Best of luck to you all.0
