    Hello again

    Just to say, DD2 seems to be on the mend :j I think I tend to worry about her more because she was tiny when she was born. Hopefully, this will wear off eventually or she will go up the aisle in white - from the cotton wool she is wrapped in :rolleyes:

    Floss: Shepherds pie, I make the mince gravy quite thick, preheat the grill when the potatoes are done. Put the mince into a warmed dish, and pop under the grill while I mash the pots. As others have said, you want a drier mash than you would do normally. Get the mince back out and you should find you have a skin on the top. Dollop spoonfuls of mash on and it shouldn't sink! (Cunning, aren't I?) I also do fork patterns on top with some butter so that when you put it back under the grill, the top goes all crunchy and golden. (DS doesn't like cheese on shepherd's pie.) I am still awaiting feedback from cats :D
    Stefjb hugs for you and your DD
    Betheebee thinking of you for tomorrow.

    Afternoon all,
    Finally got time to sit down, but I've had a really productive day.

    SC chicken thighs ready for dinner, looks and smells mmmm, OH said he does'nt want to eat just yet as he is busy....just been upstairs and it looks like hes busy..... playing games on his computer:rolleyes:

    I had an e'mail from Amazon again today,about the MAMA MIA DVD I pre-ordered at £12.99. PP said they price matched so yesterday I contacted them, and they did, but only down to £9.99 which was Woolwoths price.
    Well I was quite happy with that....but....today they e'mailed me and said they were going to price match down to £7.99 How good is that :j:T :j

    Looks like a shepherds pie day today, I've done three this afternoon, but with sliced potatoes instead of mashed for a change, also did 2 pasta bakes, the whole lot are in the freezer.

    Aussie Thanks for the Morsbag link, they look really good and fairly straightforward to make, I'll have a go at one next time I get the machine out.:D
    Welcome to you Caroline and Mustangsal and any others I may have missed :beer:

    Evening Friends,
    Popped in to update my OS chalenges I set myself today and read through posts, Thank-you all who have wished me luck for my Op tomorrow.:A I'm really dreading it as the Op on my right hand/arm was excrutionately (sp?) painfull, and was for months.

    Anyhooo, Dh moved all of the logs, he wouldn't let me help. He had just finished when the logman arrived with a half load for free, he insisted we have them because he hit our dble gates to the drive with his truck y/day. We refused to let him pay for damage so looks like he still has.
    I did everything on my list except shopping and ironing but checked DH's shirts and only 4 need to be done, He's got 23 in the w/robe ironed.

    I made DH and DF's (they came to stay because of Cowboy builders) toasted bacon sarnies for lunch. The 3 of them have gone to the local so I'm enjoying some peace.

    Made chick chaser this after for dinner tonight for 4 of us and an apple cake that I'll serve warm with custard, out of a tin :o Stripped our bed, washed and dried but not ironed.

    Have made DD2 and Sil 2b Cumberland sos to go with the Brocc, Leek and Cauli cheese that I made y/day, that's dinner for tomorrow, Also made them HM Lamb burgers to go with Anna pots and peas for Thurs. and 2 packed lunches.

    All the extra quilts/pillows I used for the 22 F&F staying the other w/end got vacume seeled in one of those that reduce the size of things, can't remember what they are called. They were put in the loft after DH and I got all the xmas decs and pressies down.

    Have done paperwork, signed documents/cheques etc. as my sig using my right hand is not quite the same as my left. ( I'm left handed) but mostly ampidextrous (sp). DH said he'd give his right arm to be ampidextrous.
    Oh, the winter nights just fly by here!

    Even though I have read through, lots have escaped my tiny memory but STEFEJB I want to say how sorry I am that news was not as we prayed for. I do know what your DD is going through and I send (((((hugs and thoughts)))))))) to DD, you and yours. x

    I agree you should go to Boots.

    Stef

    Sorry about your DDs news ( I had three before having my youngest daughter and it does not get less emotionally hurtful) Gentle hug to you both.

    Betheebee

    Good luck for tomorrow and make sure you rest your arm whenever you can.

    Moneysaving diva

    Regards to Tristan and I doubt if any sensible person thought you set an alarm !!!! to get up in the early hours so you could start the thread.:eek:

    I saw it in my head as quesiladas - a sort of mexican stuffed spicy pancake.

    Redruby

    I have p.m. d you with the info that you wanted.

    Welcome to mustangsal and other new people - and come back all those MIA please.

    Made home made posh crisps in the Remoska - just scrubbed the potatoes, peeled thinly then dried the peelings and put in Remoska with some oil for 25 mins turning once or twice.

    DD enjoyed them but would not have if she had realised she was eating potato peel!;)

    Have saved some mash potato so I can make potato scones tomorrow and also saved a small portion of mince to have with jacket potato tomorrow as a lunch.

    Going to do dishes now so see you later.

  • Okay dinner was spag bol as i went to clean the oven but i think the paste needs a bit longer to work its magic although I can see some of the dirt has been lifted.

    Washing is still out on the line so best get it back in soon. House looks like a bomb has hit it but to be honest I am too tired to start tidying up so will leave it for tomorrow.

    evening :wave:

    for all thos who asked I'm an Advanced Nurse Practitioner working in the NHS
    so today had a framed certificate to hang on office wall and £100 of Capital Bonds :D

    shepherds pie - when meat mixture is cooked I drain it over a bowl, this makes the mix very thick to hold the potato topping, and I have gravy to pour over the top :)

    Little bear is so grumpy. I have been giving him medised which is supposed to help dry up a runny nose. I have been giving it to him on occasion since he was six months. It says it can be given from 3 months on the box. However the local pharmacy on the instructions of the local doctor, after selling me the jallop for little bear for over a year, now won't sell it for any child under 24 months. Little bear will be 2 on 29 Dec. I have been sprinkling olbas oil on the radiator and I have purchased a vaporiser. Do you think the chemist would know if I sneaked into Boots to get the medised? And evilly administered a medicine designed for children over three months to my 23 month old son!
    from the Medised homepage

    What age of child can it be used?

    The medicine can be used in children from two years. Medised for Children should not be given to children under two years except on the advice of a doctor.

    diphenhydramine is one of two active ingredients in Medised states and the British National Formulary states

    MHRA/CHM advice (March 2008)

    Children under 2 years should not be given over-the-counter cough and cold medicines containing the following ingredients:
    • brompheniramine, chlorphenamine, or diphenhydramine (antihistamines);
    • dextromethorphan or pholcodine (cough suppressants);
    • guaifenesin or ipecacuanha (expectorants);
    • phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, oxymetazoline, or xylometazoline (decongestants).
