OS Tuesday 25/11/08

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tues 25/11/08. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

Just having a bit of a rest atm. Lovely breeze blowing in the window. Been shopping with DGS this morning and I've just walked them home. I plan on going into the kitchen shortly to make some pasta sauce for the freezer. I've got heaps of tomatoes to use up. Change from cabbage anyway.

I'm meeting up with DSis on Monday & I hope to make her a Morse bag. I'm getting her Xmas gifts sorted as I won't see her again before the big day. I've got some lovely curtain material here that I want to use up. Will be perfect for shopping bags. Hopefully I'll get to cut it out today.

Pen Pen I think your wrong. :p:D There is not many posts that don't have some OS content in them. Although I read a few rubbishy ones yesterday. But I really think nearly everyone has tried to stick to the new rules. Please keep posting.
Haribo & CM :iloveyou:

Well I hope you all have a lovely day. <hugs> to those not well or troubled. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    Morning.

JUst looking through the pre budget proposals and struggling to find anything that will stimulate the economy. The worst thing I think id the huge increase in air passenger tax. I go to the USA every couple of years to visit family. It's looking like £75 each tax to the Government before we even pay for the other taxes and finally the airline ticket. There are lots of other things that will make me worse off. Spend spend spend? I think he has just depressed the economy more. What a loser.

Anyway last day at work today and then 5 days off. I have about 15 hours work to cram in to 9, so I have no idea which job will not get done.

I have to get the MOT done on the car this week, so I hope it's not an expensive one.

Well folks I hope you don't feel gloomy like me? I had hoped for a better pre budget report, but I feel rather down about the future.

    Cheers
NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!

    Morning all :hello:
Well, it looks as though I have another unplanned day off work today as DD2 has still not fully recovered.

Still, it will give me chance to do some more pre Christmas cleaning I suppose. I think I will also do some baking for the freezer as I was reading another thread about the best mince pie pastry ever... something I always struggle with, even after all these years. Still, today might be the day. Well done Esore for cracking it! :T

Floss: No I think the cats have taken a message and will get back to me..

I hope everyone is well and hugs for those that want them.

    Carmen tonight! :j

It's bitterly cold here this morning, I really need to buy some more slippers as my last pair disintigrated.
Minestroni soup for lunch today as I made 4 huge servings last night, 3 are in the freezer.
DS popped in for his washing last night so I gave him some HM Kentucky chicken & the rest of the Rocky Road to take home for him & his flatmate. He says my car needs approx another £100 spent on it, but he'll pay it up front & I can pay him £20 - £25 a month to make it easier for me, he's so good to me.
Heard from a friend last night, she's been to Boston for a week with her DD, her DD received a pnone call while they were away to say she had no job to go back to, thankfully her OH is in a good job & fairly secure.
Off to work soon, I'm beggining to find the workload quite depressing & really need some help but still no sign of Mrs Degree.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Aussie  hope you are ok x

Well I still feel pretty rubbish, nose is blocked, ( WS I know how little bear feels !!), and my chest is tight and it hurts to breathe.

OS wise today I will put a wash on, dinner tonight will be lamb, left over from sunday in the sc with butter beans, and something spicey, with cous cous, not sure how much more I will get done, but I will potter and see what happens.

    Have good days all xx
  • Good Morning All

N9eav - I couldnt believe the budget - as a small business it doesnt really help us and not as a family either. Havnt met anyone who is impressed.

Hester - hope you get some help today.

Pampered chef was nice yesterday - bought a cheese grater.

However had tummy ache when I came home and have woken with a sore throat. Hopefully a couple more cups of tea will sort that as meant to be helping out in DS' school this afternoon - we are making Xmas decorations.

Need to get some pork loin chops out of the freezer for dinner tonight, am OK for bread though. Am waiting for my kilner jars to arrive from ebay so can start making my onion marmarlade.

Off now to check the bank a/cs - that wont be fun.

    Morning :hello:

I've decided to stick to being tru, some people didn't know that tru and troo are the same person :D I logged in as tru last night and found unread PMs from august - I wasn't ignoring anyone, honest :o:D

I've had a rubbish few weeks, I didn't feel like I fitted in anywhere so I cut myself off from most people and completely threw myself into OSing and cardmaking. Result - great food and a sparkly house, all done 'properly' thumbsup2.gif Card sales are up and the designs have just got better. A farm shop I supply have just said that they'll take ANYTHING I make, as long as it's handmade. They don't even look at my stuff now, they just tell me to leave whatever I've brought with me on the counter for them to display :T So I'm searching for OS crafts at the mo, salt dough etc. I just can't manage to sell anything online though.

What's a good price for a free range turkey? I've just ordered one from a wonderful farm shop, £3.50 per lb. I've no idea if that's good or not, but the rest of their stuff is excellent so I decided to order from them this year.

Edit cos we posted at the same time and I didn't see, lol

    Glad, congratulations congrats.jpg :j

    Edited again  :D

The VAT cut won't make a lot of difference to me, but I was watching the news anyway to see what was happening. They interviewed some people in the street - one woman said 'Well most people don't understand percentages, but I do because I work in a bank. We'll now be saving £2.50 for every £100 we spend'. How patronising  and her maths are completely wrong :rotfl:
