Yes, the lady on the phone said just that. I haven't emailed them to confirm it. But it took all of 5 minutes to click through and see it already open online. All I have to do is "fund" it from my nominated bank. I've even closed down my Northern Rock 6.9% a few weeks early, in order to take a gamble that rates are still going to drop, and forego a few weeks interest to gain another year at a lower, but the best that there is out there as we speak. Does make you a bit dizzy!

I've just opened a poppy bond account on line (being an existing customer helped) and have spoken to the call centre who have given me a "pipeline" final date for payments of 18 November.

It certainly does get you juggling. They said today that savers outnumber mortgages 6 to 1.Does not make any sense dropping as much, surely there was a happy medium.

I too have a Northern Rock bond like you,but we need a new bathroom next year so i cannot afford to tie any more up,much as i would like to.Luckily i have the Coventry over 50 account that is a fixed rate until April but instant access also, the best of both worlds,so i am ok till then.Probably won't have much left after the bathroom is done!!

  • Can you make the inital payment by electronic transfer? If so, what is the largest amount you can send in order for it to transfer the same day through Faster Payments?
