I did it online and asked to send application. Got it today and sent it back via registered post. No ID need as they did the electronic check so fingers crossed it will soon be up and running.

I assume the electronic check doesn't work if you've moved house recently as I'm sure Halifax also do an electronic check but they have still asked me to take id into a branch.

I've lived in this house since it was built over 20 years ago so why they couldn't check me electronically, I don't know.

I am not sure if I need to do the stupid id stunt. It was not particularly clear when I signed up. I have never needed it anywhere else. However I do find hidden in the top corner of the pdf printout, in a box titled "FOR OFFICE USE", the ominous little code "ID REQD", is that a bad sign?

If you have certified copies of ID, I'd include them.
If you don't, then I would just send your form & cheque. They should then honour your application, even if they have to return it asking for ID,
    They did with me.

Must say, they did return my original application & cheque and then the return of my copy ID after my second sending, using special signed for postage.

I've had various accounts with the Coventry for about 8 years now and I've always found them very helpful. The interest rates aren't always top of the comparison tables which is why I moved my ISAs to Icesave. But that as they say is another story!

Not sure if it's a bad sign but does mean they require the specified ID docs.

I hope it's safe to send a £20k cheque by post. Too late now.

Should be fine, as long as you made it out to yourself.

It was made out to my mum (her application) from my account.

I was going to put the 20k in Egg, but wanted mum to have poppy bond. She had to give 60 days notice on Principality account, and there are still 30 days to go.

Won't it be great when we are all settled, with our new accounts, and we can then get on with living again.
I've had enough of all this.
