Personally I have found Coventry to be very well organised. Only wish others were like them. Luckily I have a couple of accounts with them, so didn't need the ID checks, or at least they would have been done electronically. Once I had the account number I paid in online from A&L
straight to the account with my opening balance, it didn't need to be a cheque.

One tip for the future, always make sure you have one paper bank statement and one paper telephone/gas/elec bill etc. for such occasions. Paper free has its drawbacks at times!
  • FWIW even with an online-managed account, many banks/BSs will send a paper statement on request.

When requested - The Cov sent me a statement and it arrived next day.

Why would a BACS transfer to your current account not have been sufficient? You've got me worried now. Can anyone confirm the cheque clearing process? Is it not the case that even if Coventry BS received and took your cheque to their bank on the Tuesday deadline, that your own bank would not be presented with the cheque until Wednesday or later?

I ask because I'm initiating a BACS transfer to my current account today and although it could be afternoon and fall into Friday's processing, I'm hoping that's still time enough.

    Anybody?
I'd never done a BACS from B&B before so didn't really know how fast or slow it would be. I daresay it would have reached the current account by the time Coventry receive the cheque, which will likely only be the day before the deadline.

I didn't feel comfortable writing a cheque for money I knew was not there there yet, though it is now, B&B Chaps having worked sometime between 1pm and 2.30pm when I checked today.

Hopefully your BACS will be through by the time the cheque is presented.

I just had no experience with BACS from B&B. Yorkshire BS take 6 days for BACS (and this straddles a weekend) so maybe even thursday next week by time it reaches - and they don't have a Chaps facility. I would rather have taken it from there otherwise.

With Coventry sending application pack out so quickly I thought it might just all get processed quickly once they get it all back. I hope so!

Hi folks, I am prsuming that some people have received an email about the poppy account, but it had not been posted....So here goes.

Seeing as I have recived paperwork from the society to sign, and I have just attatched a cheque, all should be good for my new account.
Glad when all this bringing back money in foreign accounts to UK accounts is over :-)
    :rotfl:
  • Yup got that email today too. I knew about the date when I phoned to query ID when I received the info pack yesterday. Now I have the money to hand I'll post it all off early tomorrow with the ID.

Right kerfuffle isn't it having to do all this shifting about after the massive rate drop. I didn't have anything in the dodgy banks, though I did open a B&B account shortly before they were rescued.

I applied last Sunday online, got the paperwork on Tuesday (because it`s a joint account),signed and sent it back on Tuesday and could view the account online Wednesday.
Already had an account, with them so just a transfer of funds.

Yeah, as Froglet said above, a BACS from B&B (if done before midday) will usually be in your linked account 2 working days later. My money won't now arrive in my account until Tuesday and they'll likely get the cheque on Monday, so I'm counting on a couple of days of admin/clearing before it hits my bank. Slightly seat of the pants stuff! I might end up wishing I'd used CHAPS like yourself!

The only rate as far as I know for this bond was 6.25%.
    Is this correct?
