It was made out to my mum (her application) from my account.

You should be OK then. You'd be surprised how many people make the cheques out to the actual bank/building society.

Won't it be great when we are all settled, with our new accounts, and we can then get on with living again.
I've had enough of all this.

    You and me both Lynt.

    Thanks for comforting words.
  • Well after going through the online sign-up process again and actually printing the forms at the end this time  I think I'm all set for the mad dash tomorrow to get ID photocopied, certified and sent off next day delivery for Thursday. Hopefully they'll honour the rate even though they may not get round to cashing the cheque until later.

I am not sure if I need to do the stupid id stunt. It was not particularly clear when I signed up. I have never needed it anywhere else. However I do find hidden in the top corner of the pdf printout, in a box titled "FOR OFFICE USE", the ominous little code "ID REQD", is that a bad sign?

Mine hasn't got this in the box but I'm doing the certified stuff anyway.

Too right. Last week when the Bank Rate dropped through the floor I was in deepest Wales, computerless and without even a mobile signal, not that I had any useful numbers stored on there anyway. You can imagine how much I was 'relaxing' on holiday after that, bearing in mind that half my income comes from interest.

The only consolation I had was that I'd fixed an over 50 account at 6.25% for a year before I left, based on the rumours that rate cuts were imminent.
What with Landsbonki and Krapthing going paridae-up, it has been a bit of a roller-coaster lately.

When applying for this bond online, did anyone receive a confirmation email? Also, is anyone aware of how long the account will take to set up? I completed the online application yesterday (which appeared to go through fine) and I'm wondering when I should expect something through the post. I'm concerned that by the time I'm verified my identity, the bond will no longer be open for deposits.

    Thanks.
No, no email. I applied for my Poppy bond on 10th. I was pleasantly surprised to get the application pack today, two days later. I had to do a Chaps from B&B to get the funds out in time (never done a Chaps before so I hope it works when they say it will, tomorrow) as Coventry BS helpline (and now their website) says they need to receive the form, ID and cheque by Tues 18 Nov. Was struggling to find suitable ID - going to have to send my bank statement (hate that). I don't have a driving licence and my passport is about to expire. Also I'll have to send a DLA letter (having checked the helpline I was told it would be acceptable) I got this year for the other item. Trouble is all our utility bills are in my wife's name, the only one in both names is the BT phone bill and that is paperless and they won't accept that.
The indications are that they will turn the documentation around quickly. I'm going to need it back sharpish for another account. Nail biting time!!

Why would a BACS transfer to your current account not have been sufficient? You've got me worried now. Can anyone confirm the cheque clearing process? Is it not the case that even if Coventry BS received and took your cheque to their bank on the Tuesday deadline, that your own bank would not be presented with the cheque until Wednesday or later?

I ask because I'm initiating a BACS transfer to my current account today and although it could be afternoon and fall into Friday's processing, I'm hoping that's still time enough.

    Anybody?

Yes,if you use B and B or any other well known bank/BS,it usually only takes 2 days.Even the day Coventry receive the cheque, and even if they then pay it straight in it will be another 2 days at least before it clears.

When i request a BACS transfer from B and B in the morning it is in my bank,HSBC,2 days later.

We have until Tuesday anyway.Coventry really seem on the ball with this account, luckily i opened an account with them earlier in the year when i had to go through the ID process. It certainly pays to be with a few places so you don't have this every time.

Thanks Froglet. They do seem to be well organised. I received a reminder email today regarding the Tuesday deadline, so they're making sure everyone who enquired but hasn't applied yet is in the picture.
