FTC also has a Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/federaltradecommission
I wonder if the FTC Facebook page has an ad for these acai berry trials on it or not? :)

Hi i too have been scammed big time I can't beleive I have been so stupid either, I requested a free trial of acai berry and colon cleanse on a add I clcked on on Facebook, it took me to a website called slim body extreme com I filled in my detail for the 'free trail' of acai berry on 14/04/11 and it then took me to another form for the Colon cleanse, it stated I would be charged £2.48 for the P+P charges for the acai berry and £3.98 for the P+P for the colon cleanse and would receive the products in 2-3 days. They took the P+P charges immediately I received the colon cleanse 2 days later but the Acai berry still has not arrived, but on 18th April £55.89 was taken from my bank account by INT'L 0042054740 SLIM BODY EXTREME 866-5842037, I have not received any Acai berry at all, I went back onto the website yesterday to see about cancelling these products and when I click on customer support it give a list of phone numbers for various countries United Kingdom being 441617680104, I tried calling this number and surprisingly enough it says sorry this number is not recognised. I did try putting a prefix of 01 in front for US but again I got unrecognised. Does anyone else know of a number where I can ring to stop these payments being taken from my account. I have contacted my bank and ask them not to make any furher payments to any Internaitional requests and I am waiting for a reply from them. I paid with my debit card not a credit card - has anyone PLEASE got any suggestions or info on this SLIM BODY EXTREME company. I was also directed a one point to a website something called CCBILL consumer support but didnt understand why or what it is, there also seems to be another website involved called fit formula tracker com I am so confused I dont know how to cancel any of it PLEASE PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME many thanks

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem. I don't know anything about your specific query, but re the telephone number you gave above, have you tried replacing the 44 with a 0, so it would be 0161 7680104, ie a Manchester number. I think the 44 just relates to the +44 that you normally put in front of a number when dialling the UK from a mobile if you're abroad (ie you would usually replace the first zero of the area code with +44). Hope that helps - sorry if you'd already tried that :)
  • Hi, what an idiot I am, I never read terms & conditions when buying items. My girlfriend wanted these Acai berries, so I bought them for her £2.99. They charged me £126, I have reported it to the Credit card and filled in a form. Am I likely to get the money back or is this all legal, surely it is illegal to hide things in terms & conditions. I purchased them on the 03/04/11. I sent the Acai company an e-mail 3 days ago, they said as 3 days had gone I cannot cancel it. I still haven't received any berries either.

Why do these company's not get kicked off the internet.

Anyway, my question was, am I likely to get my money back from the credit card company?

    Thank you

It is certainly illegal for a company operating in the UK to contravene the Distance Selling Regulations.

Under regulation 10 and regulation 11 of the DSR you have the right to rescind the contract. Under regulation 25, the company's own terms and conditions are void and of no effect where they seek to deny one's rights under the DSR.
Why do these company's not get kicked off the internet.
Who do you suppose should do the 'kicking' and, if the site is hosted overseas, how effective do you imagine any UK agency might be?
Anyway, my question was, am I likely to get my money back from the credit card company?
I'd say that is almost certain as, under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, the credit card company would be jointly and severally liable were you to sue the berry merchants for a refund.

So now even KGB deals (owned by 118 118) is getting involved in promoting the products used in these colon cleanse and acai scams?

Current national deal on KGB deals is for a product called ColoPure:

This is the same product involved in a US federal government prosecution for fraudulent practices:
