  • Well, our day was a bit of a disaster - we were due to go and see our IVF consultant re options, eg freezing embryos etc - we were going to have day 3 bloods and a scan to see where we were.

As I said WERE - the snow came along, we couldnt get to the clinic, and neither could the consultant - OOOPS!!!

Still I am very much of a mind to let fate take its course now, if its meant to be it will happen. There is so much against me these days, I think a relaxed view of the future may well be the best approach. Hopefully I will have the trachelectomy (thanks for the description shelly) and then we will see what happens.

I'm sorry the snow is having nasty effects on people (I'm one of the ones enjoying the little I've been given though!)

I've just realised it's February and that means that my first fertility appointment with vaginal scan is THIS month! Things have been still for so long it's really exciting (and scary) to know that things might finally get moving...
Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o

Just spoke to a nurse to get some numbers - apparently all is ok except my FSH and Prolactin

FSH is 8.5 and Prolactin is 770 (should be 550 apparently)

Anyone know how you can have both of these at a high level?

I just feel like screaming 'why me?'

    Hi Annie :)

Just looking online for you & found this:
Normal auto regulatory mechanisms would not allow the coincidental finding of raised prolactin and raised FSH. If the tests were performed on the same day then there appears to be an abnormality of the auto regulation. The likelihood of a prolactinoma is small (as FSH should be low in that instance) however one explanation for this biochemical abnormality would be an FSH secreting micro adenoma as in this case report http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/full/86/8/3635 .

Doesn't seem to be many more explanations for it? I have high prolactin & it's treated with drugs quite commonly apparently so fingers crossed not too much to worry about :o

Thanks - On further investigation from your findings I found this article about a woman with elevated FSH and Prolactin : http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=14803977

All I can hope is that if I have something bizarre then maybe they will really want to fix it so the doc can get some credit for it!
  • High prolactin and FSH both indicate a problem with the pituitary. High FSH indicates issues with ovarian function, menopause etc, but prolactin levels can vary with stress and even depending on time of day taken! Was your LH "normal"?

Hi and thanks for the support and info! This thread is such a source of comfort when I get stressed about ttc :A

The doctor is not convinced the FSH level is accuarate, and says the prolactin is not very high, but elevated, which could be my stress levels apparently (not surprised!). She reckoned the estradiol was more important, and was happy with my LH. So all in all, it went better than I'd dared to hope.

I have to repeat the day 3 bloods next cycle, and do the day 21 bloods. She seems to be quite confident I am ovulating, based on my OPKs and charting.

She has decided to refer us, since DH's results weren't too hot, and since we've been trying for so many cycles, and says it will take about 3 months for it to come through. She did say she thinks it will happen, which was very encouraging. :D

Tried the Insteadcup after BD last night (we are still soldiering on :o despite the fact my faint OPK suggests that ov may have been delayed, or might not happen this month). I'm really not a fan - it's comfortable enough, but it didn't seem like it completely stayed where I put it, IYSWIM.

    Hope everyone is ok,

    Hi Annie
This is my first post on this thread, hope you dont mind. My prolactin level is 3700 at lowest and can go to almost 5000
I'm 28 years old and have been ttc for almost 2 years and have seen an Endocrinologist re: prolactin level. It turns out that in actual fact my prolactin molecule is larger than normal (it is called macroprolactin) which is why the level seems so high. The Endocrinologist assured me that this is quite common and should have no affect on my ability to conceive (he said most of his patients with this condition are mothers with families!).
Hope this helps to put your mind at rest in some way,
    Best of luck

Ooh TinyPablo - how did they find that out?
My docs seem to have written off my problems as a standard prolactin issue caused by a tumour...they're a bit dismissive to be honest & just give me pills. Are you on medication?xx

Thank you for posting! How did they find out your prolactin molecules are larger than normal? I take it from gymfiend's email that it's more usual for it to be the standard 'tumor issue', rather than big molecules!

Oh, and welcome to the thread! :D
