I just need a bit of advice, I have received a letter through to make an appointment with the hospital with regards to fertility testing etc.
I have only just started the process, had bloods done at my local doctors surgery where they found I was ovulating normally (it takes a lot for me to have bloods done cos I'm phobic of needles) and a few other things that came back normally.
I just wondered what to expect from my first appointment at the hospital?
Thanks0 -
If its anything like my first appointment its mainly a chat about options and they weigh and measure you that was about it for mine.Baby :female: Tahlie Lois born 15/3/10 7lb 12 oz :heartpulsWorking on baby no2

Hi Bunnie.
I agree with Somnium.
The first appointment is usually just a general chat about how long you have been trying and what you have been doing to maximise your chance of conceiving. i.e using ov sticks, charting temps etc.
They will ask about your cycles so its handy to write down dates or if you just know how long your last few cycles were.
You will be weighed and measured as weight is definately a factor when deciding what to do next.
They will then talk about options and what they consider would be best for you.
Also don't be surprised if they ask for you to have bloods done again as our hospital wanted their own records. Also they will want your OH to have a sperm sample tested.
HTH:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Hi Bunnie, I had my first consultation at the fertility clinic this week, and like Somnium's it was a chat and information about the various options/steps to take next.
If you have any questions I'd advise you to jot them down to take to the appt with you - everything I'd prepared pretty much went straight out of my head when we got there. Next time I'll definitely write them down before I go.
Myaccount - great to hear that your appt went so well today! Hopefully you'll be able to relax v soon and enjoy your pregnancy.
Lady A - Congratulations! You'll have an exciting few months ahead with the preparations :beer:0 -
Yes weight is a big thing I really didn't think I was going to get my IVF as I had a BMI of 32, with sensible eating and excercise its coming down slowly, but it has to be below 29 for me to go ahead with the treatment! As of this am its 29.2 so not far to go now but my appointment is in 3 weeks. Today I did step aerobics on the wii for 30 min and then went swimming, I did 50 minutes which was about 54/56 lengths of the pool. Hope this will help shifting those last couple of pounds. Ideally I want my weight to come right down so that I'm as healthy as possible for the IVF.Baby :female: Tahlie Lois born 15/3/10 7lb 12 oz :heartpulsWorking on baby no2

LOL I've just done another 20 minutes of step too, have had start getting up early before work to fit it into my busy day. Might do another hours swimming on Sunday too, but its £3 each to go swimming at our normal pool, might have to look around for somewhere cheaper! For two of us to swim twice a week is £12 and we need to save all the money we can. My AF is due at time of my consultation and I don't want to tip those scales though...eek!Baby :female: Tahlie Lois born 15/3/10 7lb 12 oz :heartpulsWorking on baby no2

Thank you for all your help. My first appointment has now been confirmed for 28th January with the nurse just to go through all the basics and book us in for some tests. Husband is very nervous and worried so having to reassure him.0

Hi Bunnie, I haven't had my first appointment yet, it's booked for next month, but once I had made my appointment we had some paperwork through saying we both needed to be there and that I would be having a vaginal scan. We also had a few forms to fill in and take with us.
I've been told that the vaginal scan is much like a smear, which I've never had a problem with, so fingers crossed...Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0 -
Well, my AF showed up properly today, so def no luck this time. This was 17 cycles gone. As I am working away this week, my OH was trying to ring up the surgery to get an appointment with GP to see what can we do to start 'investigations', and the phone was just redirecting to emergency services!!!! And when we went on NHS website to check if we had the correct number, we couldn't find the surgery any more! We found that searching for our particular surgery just redirects to a different one, with the same phone number and address, and the same working hours (6:30 pm every day!), but the phone was redirected to emergency number at 4:30! Really don't know what to make out of this and that we haven't been informed about any changes of doctors/surgeries. Hopefully OH will try to get an appointment for tomorrow evening in the morning... Not hoping much, but it would be nice to get it.
My BMI is way too high - it is 33 and I know I have to loose a lot of weight, but I am hopeless in it... I do have Wii fit, but can't find time to do it - I already get up at 6 am and get back home at 6pm, so by the time we had dinner, not much time left... Need to try harder - I know I need to loose 4.5 stone to get to the healthy range... A bit of a challenge for this year!Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0
