  • Sorry about the bleeding lilo. I have a sensitive cervix and random bleeding, never found the cause though. Hope all is ok! Just make sure they watch you closely if you fall PG before you find out whats causing it, as it would be awful if you ended up with incompetent cervix/cervical or infection issues or anything when PG.

Im still confused by my chart, its 2.30am so that makes me either 4DPO or still not O. Will find out in 10 days either way.. more waiting as usual eh!

I had another reflexology treatment today from home. Its so expensive, but it really feels like the right thing for me - hope it will end in a BFP shortly. Have any of you ever had success with alternative treatments (not just for TTC) ?
  • I just posted this on the ttc thread, but reckon that it might be better to ask here aswell as there are quite a few newbies on there at the mo...

I am tres confused now-so far since ERPC/D&C on 28th Oct I have been temping and have had no shift yet, however temps have been a bit erratic (not sure if thermometer is a bit wonky? or need a battery?) but last night had spotting and this morning have red bleeding and crampy-so far not as much as an AF, but as I understood it there cannot be AF unless you ov (and unless you are on the pill when it is not a true AF). Anyone had something similar after a ERPC? I have no clue (looked in TCOYF and you can ov and your body just doesn't react to the progesterone, but my temp shifted when I ov'd before??).

    Thanks :)

No this is wrong. If you don't ovulate you MAY not have a period that month, but the opposite isn't true. Just because you have a period doesn't mean you have ovulated, and just because you are having regular periods doesn't mean you are ovulating at all. That's why doctors do a day 21 blood test to see whether you are ovulating as one of the first infertility investigations.

The period is not just to get rid of an unfertilised egg, but also to enable the uterus to shed its lining and start building up a new lining to receive a fertilised egg. My understanding is that the hormones which switch this process on are not quite the same as the hormones which switch on ovulation, so it is quite possible for one to occur without the other.

On the bright side, it is good news that your AF has come, as it means you will be shedding the old lining, and your system will be ready again to ttc next month.
  • Hi All & Welcome :hello: to new gals i haven't 'spoken' to before. There is such a helpful and friendly crowd on here, that hope you will feel 'at home' straight away!

Thanks LILO for your positive thoughts & sorry to hear about the bleeding. I had a nasty bout of bleeding last time I had a smear and it was very worrying at the time.

Lizziebell - I think you do get AF even if you don't OV. I've been told it is fairly normal to have 1 annovulatory (sp?) cycle approx each year, where you don't actually OV (typically I had one when I was waiting for frozen embryo transfer!).

Shelly - The BMI issue is a real bugbear for me too! I generally hover around 33/34 but stress makes me 'comfort eat' (and what can be more stressful than TTC/IVF etc?!) and I need to exercise to keep my weight down (not helped by PCOS either). Although I am tall & big-built I am actually quite a fit & muscular person, which a simple BMI calculation does not take into account of course! At the moment I have a problem with my foot which means I can't do weight-bearing exercise, and the weight is gradually creeping on. Swimming & some yoga & weights is about my limit at the moment, and I really need to do cardio to keep the weight down.
My clinic will do IVF up to a BMI of 35. Last time I was weighed I was just over this, so I had to meet the anaesthetist to see if she was happy to put me out...she said they mainly worry if you are 'chubby' around the chest/neck/throat area, as it can cause difficulties with your airway when you are out, but as I am fat around my tummy, hips & thighs she was quite happy with me! Just hope this is the case this time around....

UPDATE on me so far....Well AF finally turned up on Friday evening (4 days late)....only to go again by Sunday Lunchtime - must be her shortest visit to me ever!
Eventually the clinic phoned me back yesterday afternoon (after I left them 2 messages on Friday!) - they are also puzzled, but wanted me to go ahead with the blood test yesterday and they will 'hopefully' be able to tell what is going on from that, so I got the bloods done at the local NHS walk-in centre last evening and DH is posting them today. They 'promise' to phone me re the results...but as they are really bad at keeping in touch I will try calling them on Friday morning, before I start the Stimming jabs on Friday evening - Oh what joy...2 injections a night!!!

    Hugs & Babydust everyone!

Thanks Nicki & FairyElephant, I was only going by what a doctor told me (I though you could have an AF even if you hadn't ov'd, but she was very quick to say I was wrong!). I shall look on it as a good thing, like you say and hope the big OV happens next month :D
  • Thanks everyone for the kind words and support. We managed to see GP tonight for OH's referral to urologist and sp test.

Will let you know how these go.

Angela, we had the same problem with our Dr.

I went to see him in 2005 and we were told not to worry and keep trying. Then we saw him again in 2006 and were told the same thing. Then my periods stopped in 2007 and we had some tests (nothing was wrong) and everything started working normally again so we were told not to worry and carry on trying. We went back 2 weeks ago to request something was done and the Dr basically told us that we should have made more of an effort before to get a referral and it was our fault. I though DH was going to explode with anger!

It's me that has the temper! Thanks for this, sorry you had to go through it, but its nice to know we are not alone!

Angela, what a horrible doctor. I would have been livid - and considering the mood I'm generally in at the moment, I doubt that I would have held my tongue! I do hate how so many of these doctors can dismiss us with a wave of the hand when they ought to know how much desperate hope we place in them. Bedside manners need a little brushing up, I think.

I must admit, I was surprised I didn't lose it as well. Thanks for the support.

Hi,angela,Glad that things seem to have started moving for you - you're lucky that you've just managed to get the ball rolling before you hit 40 !!!

Thanks Nottslass, yes I am relieved that we can at least "go on the list".

I am keeping up with the thread, although not posting too much as I just get obsessive and get nothing else done!

Good luck and wishes to everyone! xx
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • I agree, its totally possible to have AF without ovulation (thats what you get on the pill after all)... happens to me MOST months  Its the typical end to anovulatory cycles. It can be oestrogen withdrawl bleeding - when oestrogen continues developing in the uterine lining without reaching the threshold that triggers ovulation, then it stops and you bleed. OR it can be oestrogen breakthrough bleeding. Normally the progesterone balances out the oestrogen, but without ovulating the endometrium can continue to grow slowly & indefinately until it cant maintain itself anymore - thats when you start to bleed. The latter usually give heavier AF. Most common reason is PCOS, weight loss/gain, eating disorders, illness and extreme stress. After the (physical) & emotional upset of a D&C its totally understandable! It could be a normal anov cycle, but if you are worried you could always have it checked out incase your uterus isn't fully clear yet. Hopefully it will stop soon and you will settle back into ovulatory cycles and get your BFP ;)

I'm just popping in to see how everyone is doing? My 2ww has been nothing like I planned, which is par for the course for this attempt it seems! Far from being able to relax and take things easy (haircut and a massage were two of the things I'd vaguely planned), I got a call from school the day after the IUI to say that DD was ill, and she's been home with flu ever since.

On the plus side though, I'm now on day 24, and haven't succumbed to the urge to poas yet. I am starting to feel tempted though. The clinic advised me to test on Monday so will try hard to wait until then. I have realised that I have never ever been pregnant when I have tested before AF is due, so although I am just being superstitious am going to try and wait this time round (though have a brand new pack of ten tests from AD sitting in the drawer calling to me).
