good news was my bmi was 33 and they said it has to be under 35 for treatment so straightaway thats a good thing, they did advise for health reasons its best to be slightly under
I just wish that all fertility clinics used the same guidelines/rules. I want to go where you go
We were told that to get NHS IVF where we are my BMI has to be 30 or under. To go private they would accept me if my BMI was 35 or under.
Of course the more weight I lose the better but I wonder if I could be referred somewhere that is more sympathetic to my BMI?:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I'm sorry to hear others having such trouble with the NHS too. Lady A that is disgusting if you had the problems all along and it took 5 goes to find it, especially if that is what prolonged your TTC'ing. Makes you wonder what on earth they were looking at on the previous 4 attemps - perhaps watching the TV instead of the screen?! It's been at least 4.5 years since i started having pelvic 'issues', with each GYN appointment i get more angry with the "come back and see us in 6 months". I'm terrified that by the time they do it my repro organs will be beyond hope. Back in August after 3 phone calls of me telling them the pain is so bad we can't physically TTC (if ya know what i mean) they moved my Feb appointment forward till the end of Dec. Of course that was an exaggeration but by this point i didn't know what else to do. £2500 for a lap is so high
I very much doubt we could afford that as we cannot wait the 2 years for fertility treatment on the NHS, so we need our money for that. I'm currently putting off surgery and avoiding much needed medication (can't have kids after this), so we are TTC on borrowed time as it is. I'm just so scared it wont happen for us
I never thought we would be on this hellish TTC rollercoaster, but then i suppose no one does?
I agree they should apply the same guidelines for treatment nationwide. As far as the BMI thing, i think in many cases (esp female, ovulatory and unexplained fertility and m/c) they are hoping that with a healthy BMI patients would conceive naturally thus avoiding treatment. It's been proven time & again that dropping 10% of your weight increases fertility dramatically in the aforementioned circumstances. I know with hormonal and ovulatory disorders the natural conception rate is 90% within 6 months of achieving a healthy BMI! I'm not sure of the success stats on BMI and IVF, but i'm sure they are high too. It's such a hard experience i suppose its not one you would want to 'waste'. They say the optimum is 22-24 for conception and pregnancy... i had one Dr blame my infertility on my BMI as it was 4 points off the 'optimum' *rolls eyes*. Although i really believe it's our responsibility as parents-2-be to be as healthy as possible for the child's own potential. If we haven't conceived in the next couple of months im considering the foresight programme - i'm intrigued/excited about their high levels of conception and 0% anomoly and loss rates.
It's been about 30 hrs since my positive opk and we haven't BD in 4 days. DH works 10-16 hours a day right now so it's difficult. I think TTC is getting a bit too much for him now. Poor thing is always pestered for BD as i keep getting false LH surges. I'm really anxious we will miss O because who knows when or if it will happen again... Oh what i would give for regular fertile cycles!!0 -
Just a quickie from me at the mo' - at work & very busy!.
:hello: :hello: to all the 'newbies to the thread.
I'm still waiting for AF - put in a call to the clinic & waiting for 'my' nurse to call me back. Am due for blood test Monday morning, but am supposed to have it after AF has started according to paperwork... still not got any symptoms and it is CD34...
'Stabbing' is progressing OK - bit of a panic last nite as thought we must have missed a dose - bottle says in contains 5.5ml, each dose is 0.5ml = 11 doses to a bottle (maths when I want to school!)...last nite was #12, and just emptied a bottle.......Got DH to prise the lid off the bucket and count used needles - there were 11 already, so guess the bottles must be 'generous' (or the measures on the syringes are wrong - but don't even want to go there!).
Hugs, dust & glue to all who need them!

TTC with FI - RIP my 2 MC Angels - 3rd full ICSI starts May/June 2009 - BFP!!! Please let it be 'third time lucky'..... EDD 7th March 2010.0 -
Good luck and enjoy the BDing ( belive me,even that stops being "fun" after abit.lol)
P.s I also do "fertilty dances" by request if required !!!
Thanks
To be honest the BDing is already becoming a bit non-fun already, so no hope for us really as only been at it for a few monthsDH has got it into his head about being on a schedule and it seem to put him off a bit, but it is difficult to be spontaneous when I know that I really need to be trying at least every other night, grr!
Anyway I will definately save up a fertility dance request for the futurex

So I take it below these values is also not ideal for conception and pg? Crap!0 -

I was very very lucky to have BUPA cover and had very speedy gynae treatment when I needed it - I had 4 laps and all the various bits, (and a few ttc bits 'off invoice while we are there') and was diagnosed with endometriosis at an early age, so knew all about it, and had laser treatment privately as well. To be honest, it is a different world out there, and made life so much easier. I would probably still be waiting for a diagnosis 20 years later if I had gone NHS!!! Going private for IVF is completely different, and sometimes I find that it is like paying for NHS!!!!!!!!
I am trying to decide when to try again with the IVF. I am just coming up to ovulation (day 8) and could go again as soon as AF arrives, which would put Embryo Transfer at just before Christmas with 2WW during, or start in the new year - AF due appx new years day TBH cost will have to factor in, but I am really quiet over Xmas, and OH is off, so I could have a really easy time of it. Im not bothered about drinking, so it may be better. Better talk to DH I suppose, but as hes snoring at the me, Ill do it later. TBH we are enjoying the BDing!!!! (TMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Baby dust to all - Lilo
Do you think that you'll go for another try before xmas ? ET should be about the week before xmas for me - so all being well,I should be testing on new years day !!!!
Things seem to be moving foward quite nicely for a few of us - all we need now is a few BFP's !!!!!
No side effects, so far with the down regging drugs - but Having trouble stopping myself having and "extra sniff for luck"0 -

Hi Fairy Elephant, this is me just realising you asked me a question days ago!
I have been on Prostrap since August, so no periods at all. I have another ovarian cycst you see ( endo) and they have tried to dampen it down before next embryo transfer. I feel my chances are slim. Getting a scan on Monday to see if it has shrunk any, but no matter what going ahead with ET - which should be within the next 3 weeks.
I can't get the cyst removed as I can't have any more surgeries - consultant says we can "work around" the cyst , as this one is only 4 cm.
Good luck to everyone in their own wee journeys, its both nice and sad too too hear what is going on with others.

Mysmeg, google 'castor oil wrap' and read about it - I have tried this, and it has definately improved my cysts, to the point where one of my ovaries is now usable, whereas before IVF wasnt stimulating any eggs from that side. It is a bit messy, and I also did a wierd diet for pcos at the same time, basically a wholefood diet, also removing dairy and wheat (I think there were a couple of things left after that - not much though!!!) but I lost quite a bit of weight at the same time (S16 to S12!!!!) which I have kept up as I have kept dairy out of my diet ( I am intolerant to both milk proteins, apparently)
I have to say that I have felt much better in myself since I did this.
Anyway that was off at a tangent a bit, but look at the oil stuff, In my experience it worked very well. You can order the castor oil from boots pharmacy if you need to.Live on £4000 a year again for 20110 -

Notts Lass - sorry im not to good with this quote reply thingy yet! I too could be testing around Hogmany ( as I call it) all being well that is, my Embryos are frozen, so first things first I have to get the phone call mid Dec to say they have survived the thaw, which always leaves me on tender hooks.
Good Luck
