  • Hi everyone, I am currently posting in the TTC thread as only started trying in Sept this year (already had one blighted ovum and subsequent ERPC :() but I always read this one too (I particularly like Nottlass's fertiliy dances :)). However my point is that I now know lots more about all the options should anything appear to be wrong with ttc in the future for us and also things like the NHS putting you off and off then telling you why didn't you push it more (as if you could have predicted the future etc!!) so I will continue to read and keep up with everyone on here.

Cheers and good luck with all your efforts/treatments/tests and BFPs in the future ladies!

hiya my account, i would strongly advise you to really puch for the lap and dye, be assertive and firm. it is your body you know somethings wrong and want a final conclusive result. i had 5 lapos each of the 4..told nothing wrong then i knew i had to keep pushing finally a diagnosis after lapo 5!! (obv this was over years). do not let them fob you off. tell them your ttc and probs with af and stress time is running out you need a diagnosisis so you can then find the next appropriate move.
welcome all newbies as well, although i havent started treatment yet i will be as soon as my situation changes slightly. good luck all stay positive, firm and strong. anyone wishing a private chat feel free and loadsa baby dust to all xx

Hi,angela,Glad that things seem to have started moving for you - you're lucky that you've just managed to get the ball rolling before you hit 40 !!!

Myaccount- you should go with your "gut feeling" and push to get the lap & dye done - I work for the NHS,and can see how frustrating "the system" is sometimes !!!!

    thanks for all your welcomes.

Fairy Elephant - one more time?? I have said that 7 times!! But yes I think so although DH doesn't know that yet. :rotfl: I always say No More than after a few months change my mind. Don't quite know where the money will come from yet. The free cycles were not introduced until after we had our son so we have never had anything for free - except a few measly HIV/hep blood tests

Sarah 999 - I grew up in a big family so didn't want my son to be an only child altho I have other friends who were very happy without siblings. On the plus side DS has loads and loads of cousins to play/fight with so there's a consolation.

All you ladies seem to be on the 'long' protocol (if they still call it that!!) - I only tried that once but didn't respond and so have always done the short/flare protocol which is more like a natural cycle in terms of timing which is a bit easier - doesn't help with the two week wait tho:D

Could I just ask - nobody seems to mention the actual clinics they use - are we not allowed to? Sorry if thats a thick question - I have used 3 different clinics - one which i wouldn't touch again with a bargepole:eek: - but am considering my options for my 'maybe one more go'....

    sorry for long post

    F xx

Hi,I'm at Nuture Nottingham - I've no complaints so far.The reason That I've gone with them is that they've got the best success rate for ICSI in the area.

Have you got room for me here? DH & I are ttc our 4th, although technically it's our 2nd together. He has son 24 yrs, I have daughter 22 yrs, and we have son together that is 2 yrs. We are both 43 yrs. I have had 4 miscarriages over the past 2 years, and we would dearly love to have one more pregnancy carry to term and have another healthy baby. I've just ovulated yesterday, so I'm just entering the 2 week wait. This is a good time of year for me to get pregnant, as I have 2 mid-late July babies (they are actually 20 years minus one day apart!). We don't qualify for any assistance from NHS for ttc due to our age, and having one child at home, although our GP ran some tests for us just before we got pregnant with our son a few years ago and pronounced us "normal." We definitely cannot afford to go private for any treatment, and even private probably wouldn't do it as we're over 40.

That's our situation. Hoping that we will be seeing a BFP in 10-14 days. Good luck to everyone.

Hi Triggles - your family seems as spaced out as mine,DS1 is 22 and DS2 is 6 !!!

I'm 40 and although I don't qualify for NHS treatment,my clinic hasn't really made any reference to my advancing years.

Its lovely that you concieved at 40 + it gives me hope

Nottslass - I was 3 days short of my 40th birthday when I found out I was pregnant with DS. We were actually shocked because although we had been trying to conceive, I developed appendicitis during the 2ww and ended up having my appendix out on 11dpo - they did blood test on both 10dpo and 11dpo and assured me I wasn't pregnant. On 16dpo, when AF still hadn't showed, we tested and BFP! Was a bit nervous due to all the meds and the surgery (had some slight complications) that the pregnancy wouldn't stick, but DS is a determined little one! We've since actually gotten pregnant 4 times - so we're chalking it up to simple bad luck - as we're older we realise the miscarriage rate is higher. I am hopeful since we seem to be able to get pregnant - it's just a matter of getting the right egg.

To be honest, we're also getting started on the adoption route, hoping that if we aren't blessed with a healthy pregnancy, then we'll adopt if possible. That was DH's idea, bless him. He's concerned about my health as I had a hospital stay this summer for diverticulitis. At that point, we were relieved (god, that sounds horrid) that we were not pregnant then, as some of the meds and treatment I desperately needed (was very ill) were contraindicated for pregnancy.

We did have a sperm analysis done (the results came back the week before my appendix went LOL) and CD21 testing. Honestly, I've found that with the GPs, if you are straightforward and say "this is what I want ...." they're pretty good about it. That's what I said - and just showed them where I had been trying and what I was doing (charting). GP then just said "ok, sounds reasonable" and that was that. If you waffle about it, they know they can fob you off.

  • I went to the clinic in Halifax for most stuff, then the egg collection and embryo transfer were in Leeds.

I would agree that if your GP/senior registrar/consultant isn't being helpful then put it in writing what you want, and why you want it. ie - timetable of things that have/haven't happened.

My consultant actually apologised about us having to wait 5 months with nothing happening - he was new, and there'd been a mix up.

I believe a private lap n dye is over £2500...
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.
  • It makes me want to cry when I read about all the problems that people have when trying to get help from the NHS when trying to conceive. I was very very lucky to have BUPA cover and had very speedy gynae treatment when I needed it - I had 4 laps and all the various bits, (and a few ttc bits 'off invoice while we are there') and was diagnosed with endometriosis at an early age, so knew all about it, and had laser treatment privately as well. To be honest, it is a different world out there, and made life so much easier. I would probably still be waiting for a diagnosis 20 years later if I had gone NHS!!! Going private for IVF is completely different, and sometimes I find that it is like paying for NHS!!!!!!!!

I am trying to decide when to try again with the IVF. I am just coming up to ovulation (day 8) and could go again as soon as AF arrives, which would put Embryo Transfer at just before Christmas with 2WW during, or start in the new year - AF due appx new years day TBH cost will have to factor in, but I am really quiet over Xmas, and OH is off, so I could have a really easy time of it. Im not bothered about drinking, so it may be better. Better talk to DH I suppose, but as hes snoring at the me, Ill do it later. TBH we are enjoying the BDing!!!! (TMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

hey people good news :T had first appt with referral to fertility clinic. all went really well. staff were really helpful and explained everything and put mind at ease. we went in and got given medical history questionnaires, then had height weight and blood pressure. then the internal scan which was not too bad and then back for some more quizzzing on our medical history and how long we had been trying and next process. on way we out we were both sent for blood and urine test to check everything.

good news was my bmi was 33 and they said it has to be under 35 for treatment so straightaway thats a good thing, they did advise for health reasons its best to be slightly under - which we were expecting not heavy heavy a 16 but wiould be happy being a 14. and also for my internal scan she said all my tubes and ovaries and blah blah blah were all looking healthy and clear.

it worked out good with blood tests as they said u need to either get them done on day 21 of your period or your first day and i was on day 21 so she said i didnt need to come back for anymore blood tests.

hubby was also given loads of info on his tests about how to go about booking in his sample. so that was great and also we were gave loads of leaflets on what happens next and they offered counselling if we want to take it up to talk things through as its a hard time for most people. we said we were alright just now but it was nice to know it was there if things get too much. so nurse said today once hubby hands his samples in we can make appt for our consultant and we will really get ball rolling. also said wait times for her were not too long.

so at the moment we are both very happy. how has everyone else found there hospital experiences. from what i can tell last few people have not been good. big hugs too you! - what we did initially find tricky was referral from gp at start we asked each our gps to be referred at a year and they both said no should be two and then when i had my smear test with female gp at about 18 mths ttc she referred us and here we are now on month 21 . so lets hope something happens soon for us. and everyone else.

i think i have babbled enough!

    Babydust too all! :j
