Fairy Elephant - one more time?? I have said that 7 times!! But yes I think so although DH doesn't know that yet. :rotfl: I always say No More than after a few months change my mind. Don't quite know where the money will come from yet. The free cycles were not introduced until after we had our son so we have never had anything for free - except a few measly HIV/hep blood tests

Sarah 999 - I grew up in a big family so didn't want my son to be an only child altho I have other friends who were very happy without siblings. On the plus side DS has loads and loads of cousins to play/fight with so there's a consolation.

All you ladies seem to be on the 'long' protocol (if they still call it that!!) - I only tried that once but didn't respond and so have always done the short/flare protocol which is more like a natural cycle in terms of timing which is a bit easier - doesn't help with the two week wait tho:D

Could I just ask - nobody seems to mention the actual clinics they use - are we not allowed to? Sorry if thats a thick question - I have used 3 different clinics - one which i wouldn't touch again with a bargepole:eek: - but am considering my options for my 'maybe one more go'....

    sorry for long post

Hi Nottslass, I think it was about 5 days into injecting, but I was already really tired (maybe it's my age - almost time to join the Q for lavender water, shopping tolley etc LOL!). Apart for the urge to burst into tears every 5 mins, I get a nasty metallic taste in my mouth - I've heard from gals who use the synarel that this is even worse if you are sniffing - sorry! Whoopee !! something to look foward to then.lol

Day 31 today, and no sign of AF (irritability aside - been irritable for ages now!). Bit concerning as more usually a 30 day cycle, and I need it to start before blood test can be taken....guess I am getting resigned to nothing going exactly 'to plan' this treatment cycle....
I used to have regular as clock work 28 day cycle - until 3 months ago, when its been anything from 21 to 39 days,if AF arrives too late,I'll have to abandon this cycle till after xmas.So everything is crossed that doesn't happen. If everything goes to schedule,I should be testing on new years eve /day,and stupid as it sounds,I feel that it could be a good omen !

Have you got room for me here? DH & I are ttc our 4th, although technically it's our 2nd together. He has son 24 yrs, I have daughter 22 yrs, and we have son together that is 2 yrs. We are both 43 yrs. I have had 4 miscarriages over the past 2 years, and we would dearly love to have one more pregnancy carry to term and have another healthy baby. I've just ovulated yesterday, so I'm just entering the 2 week wait. This is a good time of year for me to get pregnant, as I have 2 mid-late July babies (they are actually 20 years minus one day apart!). We don't qualify for any assistance from NHS for ttc due to our age, and having one child at home, although our GP ran some tests for us just before we got pregnant with our son a few years ago and pronounced us "normal." We definitely cannot afford to go private for any treatment, and even private probably wouldn't do it as we're over 40.

That's our situation. Hoping that we will be seeing a BFP in 10-14 days. Good luck to everyone.

  • Hi, triggles, welcome to the thread. Good luck with your hoping for another baby! I must admit, with you having yours at 41, it gives me hope that at 39 nearly 40 we still have time left!!! I know what you mean about a fertile time of year, I have got pregnant twice at this time of year (DS and a m/c) so I always feel hopeful - I was hoping that this would bode well for the IVF but sadly not to be.

Good luck to FE and nottslass with the downregging - you know how things are going with us all - it will turn our hair grey (or even greyer - wheres that blue rinse to go with the lavender water et all!!!!) - but things seem to be turning out all right in the end!!

Freckles 38 - I have only done short protocol - this sounds much 'easier' to me!!!!!!!!! (I dont do hormones very well, I think I would be awful on all these drugs, and I was evil when I took Buserelin for my endometriosis - I smashed windows etc!!!)
    Take care everyone - lilo

  • Hi everyone (welcome Triggles)

An update from me after our 1st appt with the Fertility doc:

Please put my mind at rest over some of this stuff - I can't stop running it over in my brain!!!

Well, we were hit by the bombshell that our PCT doesn't fund fertility treatment for over 40 year old mothers (I am 40 in January). :(

This really started me off on the wrong foot, as we originally went to see OH's GP in March 2006 and nothing was said then! When we originally went to see her, the general opinion was "well you haven't been trying for so long (2 months) don't panic as it won't happen if you are worred about it". So we relaxed, got on with life, I finished MBA, we sold OH's house, got married, moved house, etc etc, then here we are.

Then a grilling about "why didn't you come before?" "why didn't you press for a sperm test" "didn't you think it was taking a bit long?" "do you have relationship/money problems?"

Next, the doc asked OH lots and lots of questions about his treatment (he has some history of problems of varying sorts) and was clearly shocked that he hadn't been referred to a urologist over the years.

Then we were asked if OH had had any sperm test - no (only a home one because we were treated like we had two heads when we had asked about it before!) Again, more shock.

Then a lecture about my weight even though I am ovulating every month (I knew this was coming - I am not hugely overweight but knew my BMI would be over so fair enough).

As we explained, we had mentioned our concerns with various GPs and it was all swept aside with a "stop worrying about it - you won't get pregnant if you worry" without a glance at either OH or my records!

The final piece - this hospital doesn't have any money for sperm tests, so you will need to go back to GP.

You will need to go back to GP for urologist referral too, we can't refer you.

Then an agonising half hour wait again for the doc to speak with the Consultant - and finally thankfully hearing that they can put me on "the list" for fertility treatment - based on our situation, even if they don't really know what the issues are, just in case we need it and I have hit 40 when we discover it (BIG RELIEF!!!)

Then - come back in four weeks!

So I got straight on the phone to the GP and made appt for OH and then another for me to have a test and then was at hospital first thing the next day to have my day 21 test done.

We see GP next week for OH's Urology referral hopefully.

After getting the initial bombshell, we actually came out quite relieved that at least SOMETHING was being done at last. Still aren't sleeping well since the appt.

Is all this normal? Have we missed anything? Should I have asked them anything else??

Phew, sorry for all that - just needed to share it with you guys who have some experience. Any help/reassurance/quashing my concerns is welcomed, thanks!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • double post sorry!
  • Hi girls, just reading through the thread and decided to register on the site. We have been TTC on and off since 2005. Since the start of this year i have been doing BBT, CM and OPK again and we've been making every possible effort to conceive. Still no hint of a BFP. We are both clean living, good diet, no alcohol, taking nutritional supplements etc. Herbal medicine wasn't working for me and i've recently starting seeing a reflexologist in the hopes it may bring our BFP. Due to my immune condition i dont react well to drugs at all, so looking for the natural route as far as possible.

I have anovulatory, irregular and painful cycles - only ovulated 3 times in 2008, cycles vary from 24 to 60 days. :( Waiting to O leaves me an anxious mess all the time, i actually prefer the 2WW lol. I've had pelvic pain since 2004 although they have always fobbed it off as IBS and never bothered to investigate. Although with other symptoms i strongly suspect endo (along with my PCOS). After irregular bleeding (lasting upto 6 weeks!) and much complaining, i finally got to see a gynaecologist. Its been a huge battle trying to get any help, and due to my health our time is fast running out to have a family. I'm sure this added pressure is only making it harder! I've seen the GYN 3 times and had all the blood tests and a measely abdominal u/s. (blood results are wonky and the u/s showed very cystic ovaries). What i really need is a lap & dye, yet they seem very reluctant to do it. I instinctively feel that something is really wrong, and im sick of butting my head against the NHS brick wall!! I have another GYN appointment in December, if still no luck then we will go private. Im really unsure of the costs, as the clinic want the £150 consultation before even discussing this.. have any of you had a lap&dye privately? Can you give me an idea of private costs?

So that is our situation, hope it wasn't too long! Look forward to sharing encouragement and hopefully BFPs! I'm currently on CD 21 and just got a positive OPK. (i also had one on CD 15 but my ovaries didn't want to co-operate as per usual!). **Trucks of sticky babydust**

Angela, what a horrible doctor. I would have been livid - and considering the mood I'm generally in at the moment, I doubt that I would have held my tongue! I do hate how so many of these doctors can dismiss us with a wave of the hand when they ought to know how much desperate hope we place in them. Bedside manners need a little brushing up, I think.

Angela, we had the same problem with our Dr.

I went to see him in 2005 and we were told not to worry and keep trying. Then we saw him again in 2006 and were told the same thing. Then my periods stopped in 2007 and we had some tests (nothing was wrong) and everything started working normally again so we were told not to worry and carry on trying. We went back 2 weeks ago to request something was done and the Dr basically told us that we should have made more of an effort before to get a referral and it was our fault. I though DH was going to explode with anger!
