Hi, I don't normally post on this thread, i'm on the other TTC thread but i though this would be useful for you all too:

I went into Savers last night and they had their ovulation strips marked up as 2.49 for 5 strips, at the till they go through at 99p which makes them less than 20p each, which is cheaper than access diagnostics! :T

Good luck TTC'ers and I'm sprinkling lots of babydust on my way out...
  • Good afternoon everyone!

Nicki - so sorry to hear you had an unpleasant experience at the clinic - these 'medical professionals' can be so brusque at times - I once had to remind one that whilst to her I may be just another patient on her list, to me she represented the chance of making my life complete by having a child, and could she respect how important this appt was to me!...she was very contrite!

Welcome JoJo - Like Lilo I'm another in similar position to you. I'm 38 & DH is 48 - he had children by 1st wife and had a vasectomy which we then had reversed (privately as not available on NHS around here). All seemed fine at first, but no BFP came.......Eventually I nagged and nagged Dr's to refer me (had to quote NICE guidelines re my age & length of time TTC to get there!) only to find that the NHS refused to see me because DH has children from previous marriage - in our PCT that means we get no fertility treatment (even tho' kids don't live with us or anything, and I'd never been PG!!!).

We asked for a private referral, and discovered that I have PCOS (already suspected this) and that DH's sperm, whilst fine in tests just after the reversal, had begun to develop anti-sperm antibodies. This is apparantly not unusual in reversal cases, so wise to keep having your DH's sperm checked every 6 months or so! (no-one had told us that before - Grr!). They apparantly attach to the tails of the sperm and prevent them swimming very far. Not wanting to worry you, but given our experience, if I were you I would ask to get your DH's swimmers checked again if not been done recently!

Hope that your referral is succesful and that you get the help you need - look forward to hearing from you again on here.

    All the best,

    FE

hi all, welcome to the newer members *hugs*
havent been around that much, af showed up and on top of that had god-daughters 2nd b'day party. surrounded by 15 kids makes you hurt a little inside, esp when some parents act like they really dont appreciate what they have. so been quite down. also was in tears yesterday as on the news was a truly heartbreaking story about a 17mth old baby that well just tore my heart into pieces. feeling a bit better today, gonna do some shopping at asdas...they have 2 tins of roses etc for 7pound so i am going to open a tin until i feel sick lololol, hugs to you all xxx

  • I know what you mean about that 17 month old baby. I am a bit fragile anyway, and made me cry my eyes out!! It makes my blood boil that anyone could do that to anyone, let alone a child some people are sick and they should bring back hanging!!!!

Thanks everyone for the lovely welcome:D

Waiting for our appointment letter but I feel optimisitic as it kind of takes the weight of us a little. I've tried so many diets, pills, exercises, worn DH out with BDing and hysterics and now know more about certain parts of my body than I feel it's necessary to know!

Totally agree about the story about the little boy. It makes you wonder how people who don't deserve or can't look after their children get to have them and those of us who desperately want one and would care so well for it haven't been lucky enough yet:mad:

Got my sister staying with us this weekend with my 7 month old nephew. He's really lovely and although I was near suicidal when she was pregnant, somehow I'm ok with the little one (when she had him we bought a puppy to compensate, which gave me sleepless nights for the first month as he wouldn't quiten down at night - gave us a lot in common!)

Lots of hugs to everone out there, it's so nice to share with people who know what you're going through.

We had a slightly better time at the clinic today. Spoke to the consultant about the chances of success with IUI and he is more optimistic than the nurse was. He's also said even if it doesn't work first time it will be a good diagnostic tool to try to work out what the problem is.

So, we're provisionally booked to have it on Monday morning, assuming that all goes according to plan and my LH surge is on Sunday. If it's earlier than that, I won't be able to go ahead with it this cycle, and if it's later, they'll reschedule the procedure to later next week. So fingers crossed for Sunday! After which I think I'll try to arrange something to look forward to for every day of the 2ww to try to take my mind of things, otherwise I'll go crazy!

    Fingers crossed for me, please.

    Good luck to everyone trying
  • Good luck Nicki, my best advice is to relax as much as possible - I was wound up like a spring and I dont think it helped at all.

  • Good luck Nicki! Hope the surge goes to plan and you can go ahead on Monday.

Welcome back VK! Congrats on getting your referral through. Don't worry - the 1st appt should be nice and hopefully you get to have a lot of ??'s answered - so go prepared! I took a whole list to make sure I didn't forget any! The scans are nothing to worry about - nothing worse than having a smear test done I reckon.

My BP seems to have crept up again, so the Dr has increased the dosage on my pills - and I have an eye-infection so I've got antibiotics (bit of a rigmarole to make sure that they were Ok to take during the IVF treatment)...honestly I am taking so many pills and potions at the moment I can hardly keep track - and I am someone who usually resists even painkillers for headache whenever possible!!!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!
