Thank you so much for your quick reply.

I don't know if there is a triage clinic, the midwife said that we couldn't go to the EPU without a referral from the doctor. If I ring them direct I'm worried they might get angry.

The bleeding started off light & has got heavier, but not sanitary towel heavy, more like panty liner heavy if you know what I mean. The dragging sensations have increased & I have got cramping, similar to when you have an upset stomach. The bleeding is dark red not brown.

I know I should stay ccalm, but it's so difficult I didn't bleed once with my DD & it's hard to think that it could be anything other than bad news.

No one will get angry with you, the worst they can say is see your Doctor first.

I hope things are OK for you, having been there myself I will be thinking about you.

Is anyone else on here using a surrogate?

Nikabella, hope you are okay - you can bleed quite heavily and still not miscarry, it just depends on what is causing the bleeding. The only way to tell is to have an ultrasound - it is probably a case of jumping up and down and insisting, crying a lot tends to help in this! I have to say I myself would go to casualty and make a nuisance of myself, but you will only get a scan during working hours cos thats when they work - I had this at christmas and had to wait 3 days for a working day but they will do it. They will also refer you to EPU. Its a sad thing to say, but I find that midwives are very unhelpful until you get to 12 weeks and booked into their systems - they just treat it as a fact of life and oh well nothing we can do. There isnt anything they can do to stop a mc, but they can get you the support you need in terms of a scan, and should have advised complete bed rest until you can be seen.

I really hope it all works out for you, and that you have been seen and sorted. Please come back and let us know how you get on. If the worst has happened, please come back anyway for support, as most of us on here have had this experience, and we will listen and empathise.

AnnieM, yes it sounds as it that was the bean. I am so sorry for your loss and I hope that you and your hubbie are coping as well as you can XXXX

Thank you. Just got back from the doctors, the doctor has said that if it's a miscarriage there's nothing they can do so doing a scan tomorrow is pointless as then I might need another one. He has made me another appointment for tomorrow evening & has said that if the bleeding has stopped then we'll make a decision on that & if it hasn't then he'll refer me to the EPU tomorrow night. I wish he had referred me straight away as i don't know how I'm going to face going to work tomorrow not knowing either way.

I'm presuming if the bleeding eases off he won't send me for a scan but I don't think that I'll be able to sleep at night so I will pay for a private one. I'm praying the bleeding stops, it doesn't look like it will. He said I should rest & avoid heavy lifting - easier said than done when DD (who's 2) likes to be cuddled & carried a lot. Everytime I lift her the bleeding gets worse.

Poor girl, must you go to work tomorrow under these circumstances?
Could you not stay at home and rest?
    Fingers crossed for you.

The doctor said to get on with things as normal just to take it a bit easy. I guess I could try speaking to my manager to see if it's ok for me to stay at home, I haven't even told him I'm pregnant yet - ironically I was going to tell him this week as I have to go on site soon & I knew I wouldn't be allowed to lift manhole covers.

Being in limbo like this is even worse than bad news in some ways.

Quickly phone the hopsital and ask to speak to the EPAU as they might still be there and explain the situation to them and see what they say.
They are there foe this type of thing and might be able to get you in? If not try tomorrow morning, the ones near me are in by 8.30 am definitely possibly before.

http://www.leedsscreeningcentre.co.uk/home/ultrasound_options is a clinic in Leeds which would do the scan you want. It costs £70.
We had a nuchal fold scan there for DS.

Lizziebell, I tried speaking to the EPAU already & they just said they can't do anything without a referal. They didn't seem very helpful, although I expect they are restricted by their procedures.

JS_Other_Half we went to Leeds Screening centre for our 12 week scan with DD as the NHS didn't offer one in our area. I think I will ring them & see if they have availability as that way I have something to fall back on if the doctor still won't refer me.

I feel calmer just for having people to talk to about this. Thank you.
