Claim for UNDERPAID Child Tax Credit 2002/2003

Please can anyone help me clarify if the refund of "under paid" child tax credit in the tax year of 2002/2003 is correct?
I have downloaded the forms but when i phoned the tax office they are not aware there is such a payment to be refunded.....
The Entitlements Agency are advertising the fact there is money to be paid a minimum of £520 but are charging £94 to process the refund.
The 0800 phone number on the form is never answered and i am reluctant to post the completed form as it contains personal information.
If anyone has had dealings with this i would very much appreciate your advice/information.
Many thanks

Hi Von123. Yes you can claim if you (1) have a child born between 1986-2003. (2) was working and paying tax financial year 2002-2003 and (3) child was living partly or fully with you 2002-2003. I have done mine, called them yesturday and was told that a payment request has been sent through and is awaiting authorisation. Do not pay for this when you can do it yourself for free. Write a short letter quotng your N.I no. to the address below stating that you want to claim child tax credit for the year 2002-2003. They will send you a form to complete and return. The form is only a page long and does not ask alot of questions. When they recieve your form, it will be forwarded to Hartford for processing. I have been waiting over 4 weeks and authorisation on my payment has been sitting stationary for about a week. They are a bit slow.

    Send initial letter to:

    HM Revenues & Customs
    Chailey House
    Cardington Road
    Bedford
    MK42 0YS

    0845 302 1458

    Hope this helps

  • I have been following the threads and have decided to send a letter to claim this backdated amount.
    I have four children,born 93 96 97 and 2000,will I receive the £549 for all 4?
  • I have also phoned today, they are sending me a form.
If you have questions you should ring your local tax office.

This is the info I have been given about it:

    Information for Parents

Unclaimed Children’s Tax Allowance for 2002/3

The year before Tax Credits were introduced there was a different non-means tested allowance available which was never advertised by the Inland Revenue.

It is called the Children’s Tax Allowance for the Year 2002/3.

You can still claim this tax allowance before the 31 January 2009 deadline.

You need to phone your local tax office and ask them to check whether you have already received this allowance and, if not, enquire as to what action you need to take.

    You are eligible to claim £520.00 allowance if;

*You have a child born between 6 April 1986 and 5 April 2003
*The child lived with you for all or part of 2002/2003
*You worked and paid tax for all or part of 2002/2003
*You or your partner earned £6,000 plus in the year 2002/2003 tax year

    You are eligible for the £1,040 allowance if;

*If you can answer yes to the four questions above, and
*One of your children was born between 6 April 2002 and 5 April 2003

    Notes:-

*Making a claim does not affect your current or future entitlement to Working or Child Tax credits.
    *Your Marital status is irrelevant
*You cannot claim the allowance twice and if your final tax code on your April 2003 P60 ended in a H or a T, you have already had the allowance.
*This is an easy claim for you to make so do not get duped into paying someone to do it for you because they are likely to charge a large percentage for their services

Bear in mind the West Midlands police have been recently told about this and that they did not receive it at the time, so the phone numbers are very busy, not all operators have heard of it but they will check it out for you and answer questions/ send a form etc.

I called again to check if my husband had already received it but they need to talk to him, not me, so I will get him to phone later.

    Hope that helps!
  • Hi
I have spent most the morning on this, and having phoned the Tax credits office, our local Tax office and my husbands employers tax office I have finally got somewhere....I think!
The address higher on the forum only applies to that person’s tax office. You have to write to your tax office on your P60 for year end 5th April 2008. Our local Tax offices were really unhelpful and told me it was too late to claim and they had never heard of this. However speaking to the correct tax office for my husband they gave it the correct title you need to refer to Child Tax credit relief 2002/2003.
I was advised to write to them and give our details NI number, DOB and our Children’s full names and DOB.
If either of your P60for year end 2002/2003 end in H or T you have already claimed this.
  • so ive sent it to the wrong place?doh!
  • ok i got my form today, but i dont know about the higher tax rate?i wasnt working at the time, only my husband, does that mean he paid higher tax rate?
