  • I've been using the Tesco VISA card for some time it provides .7p in the pound cash back. You also earns Tesco Club card point on every purchase, this amounts to 1%.

If you exchange the points for certain items then you can receive four times their face value. For example we exchanged £250 of points and received £1000 in holiday vouchers.

If you take the cash back and club card points into consideration this in my view offers the best deal on the market.

Hi johnk, sorry for the delay in replying to your question, I've had a very busy weekend. I don't know the name of the Citi M.D. I just addressed my letter to "The Managing Director" & hoped for the best.

I'm new at this so forgive my ignorance! Also maths are not my best subject!

Recently acquired these two cards for the cash back facility.

My daughter and I need to pay for our holiday shortly (around £1800) I haven't had a holiday for ages and it is a trip of a lifetime.
Would it be better to pay by Amex Blue (I always pay off in full) to get the 2% cash back bearing in mind that the travel agent charges 2% if paid by cards other than debit ones?

Also would it be a good idea to get a Nationwide card to use abroad sounds like it would but can you have too many cards?

Assuming that you don't have a Halifax cashback debit card, paying by Amex blue with 2% cashback will leave you 72p better off than paying by debit card. However, it will also help to bring you up to the £2000 boundary so that you will earn 1% cashback after the 2% deal finishes. Since there doesn't seem to be a limit on the amount you can spend on the 2% deal, I can't see any reason not to put it on the Amex.

In general, if all things are equal between paying by credit card and paying by debit card, I choose the credit card, especially for large purchases or distance purchases. I would much rather expose a lender's money (via the credit card) than my own money (via the debit card) to the risk of fraud, as I wouldn't want to be out of pocket while waiting for a refund. Of course, you also have protection under the Consumer Credit act.

Paulee, what's the name and address of Citi's MD? I am also trying to lodge a complaint but could not find his contact details. Thanks.

Likewise, I'm having problems with them too.

I applied for the Platinum card and got the acceptance letter through the post. There was no mention of cashback on any of the forms/letter that came with that letter, so I called the 0870 number for 'customer services'.

The bloke I spoke to (clearly based at an Asian call centre) claimed that he couldn't find any details on me. He said my name, address, postcode or details of my application were not known. At which point I tore the letter up into a thousand pieces. He then asked if there was anything else he could do for me!! Short of telling me the time or what the weather is like, he was unable to say what he could help me with, Citibank-related that involved asking for details of my name!

Citibank are a bunch of !!!!!! and are simply not worth the effort.

Re Citibank, but slightly off topic, but if you open up an online account with them in the USA you get a free I-Shuffle. Chances of that happening here?

Following the link on this website I applied for this Citi cashback card yesterday + am waiting for the paperwork to come through. But did you know that if you just go to the https://www.citicards.co.uk website, there is no mention of the cashback card at all! Just the standard Citi Platinum Visa card with no mention of cashback!! So I will wait and see what arrives in the mail.

After my letter to the M.D. on 12 May I received a reply today, dated 18 May, from "Operations Administration". It contained two apologies for any difficulties I had experienced, acknowledged receipt of my wife's destroyed card and offered a detailed explaination of the Citi cashback offer.

All in all it is a pretty bland letter, not very personal and from a department rather than from a manager or the M.D. I don't feel confident that Citi will do a decent job of managing my account with them and do not think that I will use their card. I do have an Amex Blue that I try to use first but, as most of you are aware, it is not generally acceptable, particularly at smaller businesses. However, I have to say that Amex do seem to be pretty efficient. Does anyone have any experience with the Conran cashback card? I believe that this is run by MNBA & would expect this to be pretty good

I've had the Amex card (Blue and Platinum credit card) and didn't have a problem getting cashback from them. Had to stop because it was getting hard to find retailers accepting it.

Now have the Conran Card, have just had my first cashback from them (last month), came at 1%, again no problems. Few things about Conran, compared to other cashback cards. Conran is not technically a cashback card, more of a share scheme. However it all boils down to cashback. They promise at least 0.8% cashback, but historically have given 1% cashback (like they did this time round).

Also most other cashback cards will give you your amount at the end of your card anniversery, Conran give it back around April / May time every year.
