Hi
This is my first posting and is a cautionery one!
I used my Acucard for purchases at work and spent almost £100,000 in twelve months. At 0.8% CASHBACK that means I was expecting nearly £800. Then I found out that Accucard have a capped limit for cashback of £160,leaving me £640 SHORT!. If you are building up a nice cashback pot, then CHECK THE SMALLPRINT! (0 -
Just to say any feedback on Bank of Ireland Cards and Conran cards from people signing up would be welcome. Is it all working out ok?

Just a thought for you all here, those of you searching for 'cashback' cards. I went searching the Internet few days ago and I came across the Morgan Stanley 'Platinum' card. It has various cute designs too. I have applied for the Platinum with the Saltire on (not Scottish but I love Scotland!)
They are offering 1% cashback! on all spends. No upper limit on what you can earn with this cashback offer.
Seems a good deal to me when everyone else is slashing cash backs all over the place.

From http://www.morganstanleycard.co.uk/uk/data/card/platinum/plat.html: "† Paid yearly based on your annual level of purchases. The Cashback Bonus award is 1% of the first £2,000 of purchases and 0.5% of all other purchases made in a particular year."0

Yes, I am aware of these figures you are both pointing out. The term 'no upper limit on what you can earn' is wording I got from the Morgan Stanley site itself and refers to the fact that the amount of cash you can claim isn't limited. I was trying to help!

Appreciate the sentiment but your statement "They are offering 1% cashback! on all spends" is somewhat inaccurate. I was trying to help others reading the thread. Sorry for being curt but I'm trying to reply on about four threads at once.0 -
I called Amex tonight after recieving the letter regarding the change to 0.5% cashback for the first £2000.
I got the call centre in India, and asked if the £2K ceiling would include the spending on the card up to the change in Oct i.e if I had already spent over £2K I would carry on at 1%. I was informed that it was £2K from Oct and any previous cashback spend would not count towards the £2K, allthough the cashback earned to the change would be honoured.
Not very good amex, time to ditch the card I think especially as my Money back year starts in July >:(0 -
I received my letter from Capital One in June saying that after years of happy 1% rebates they were cutting back to 0.5% from August.
So after reading Martin's article(s) I went for a three card combo:
Amex Blue - for 1% cashback and 2% in the first 3 months, for the majority of purchases
Morgan Stanley Platinum - for 1% back on the first £2000 spent per year, to cover purchases where Amex is not accepted
Nationwide - for purchases abroad where the loading fee wipes out any cashback on other cards - with a cheeky 0.5% rebate thrown in!
I'm sure many of you had come to similar conclusions.
But now I hear that Amex is cutting is cutting it's rates too. ARRGH!
My questions to you forumites are:
1) If I haven't heard 'officially' from Amex, is my rebate still as was previously advertised (2% for 3 months, 1% thereafter)?
2)Even if I do hear from Amex, do they have to honour the first three months at 2% as that was a promotional incentive?
3)If I consider the Conran card as an alternative, it looks like you only get the rebate on purchases over £100 (it says 'spend £100 elsewhere and you will receive 1 Conran Profit Share'). Or if you spend £50 at one place and the £50 at another you get 1 profit share? Can anyone confirm or refute this?
4) Is there any downside to me applying for so many credit cards in such a short space of time.
Thanks for any comments

Re Amex.
I just got some 'junk mail' from Amex in the post today where the offer was 2% but it doubled up to 4% for the first three months - a bit unsure of the details for the 2%; dont shout but I threw it in the bin.
s'pose I could always riffle thru the bin and dig it out :-(
Its quite annoying really because I've just spent the last three months sepnding thousands of pounds (as wisely as I could) on finnishing off the extension to the house.Personal Responsibility - Sad but True
